WOW!!! Pretty amazing, indeed!!
My dad a scrap yard in the mid-70' and early 80' on my grand-father's farm. My bother and I were playing in the cars all the time....He had an old red convertible Alfa Romeo spider in the barn that we buried under stack of hays!!!
Had 3 mopars . 1st one , a coronet , just like this one . 2 nd one , my fav, a cuda 1970 ,383 super commando , identical but lemon yellow and to finish , a burgony red charger 440 six barrel .
They were not handling to well . As a matter of fact , i crashed the cuda . It was a total wreck .
So , i went for GM . GTO 1971 455 ho . This is the original pic of it ...

Yep, people are nuts to let these cars go. Had to think about it but i've had mine since 1977. Bought it when it was 6 years old and kept it since. Yep I was 14 at the time, saved every penny to get it too. The year before I bought a pinball machine. Hell I was an early starter. Wish I had gotten the car new but I was only 8 years old when it was built so that wasn't going to happen. I can't understand how people could drive them into the ground after keeping mine for this long and just simply maintaining it.
It's amazing what people abandon. Buddy and myself are looking at disposal on a bunch of old boats, you know wooders from the 60's. Just junk really EXCEPT they have 427 Fords and 454 Chevs buried in them.
Nice cars...you didn;t shy away from the muscle by any means. The old mopars are bringing a good $$. As for cars in barns they still exist. My primary hobby is combing the back 40 for old relics and antiques. Every once in awhile you find a pin but you almost always find some cool canucks out there. People with old crap are generally nice folks if you don;t intimidate them. I check the link out every once in awhile. If you are into cars much check out the garage journal. Has some good pics on where people park their cars with the odd relic sitting in the shop.
I have been involved with 2 barn finds, one being for myself.
1- A buddy of mine called me up stating he found a muscle car that has been in a barn for 28 years. We get there and noticed that a tree has grown in front of the barn doors (bad sign). We get in through the back door and there lies a 1970 Challenger T/A with the 340 6-pack engine. Nice. In the barn since 1978, and is pretty much rusted everywhere and is now a mouse nest. Not so nice.
He has been restorign it slowly since getting it in 2005.
2- In 1996 I worked for a garage that had a contract with a company that rented cars for movies. We would often pick up cars in remote places, bring them over, make them functional and they would be used later. This guy owned over 400 cars.
He comes to the garage one day stating that he heard that a farmer in the Eastern Townships has an old Renault 5 in great shape for sale cheap, and he needed a nice one for a film. So he gave me 1000$ and told me to go get it.
I get there and the farmer leads me towards a barn in the back, stating that the car was his son's and he passed away 6 months prior to that day and just wanted the car gone. He wanted 1000$ for it. I thought it was a bit pricey for a then 10-year-old car but hey... I am not buying it. But he then says something that got me curious... he said that his son had the car brought in from France 3 years earlier. (Huh??? Renaults were still everywhere... why import one ?
Well, when he opened the door, I knew why. It was a race-spec Renault 5 Turbo.... black.... ohhh yeah.
Needless to say that I paid the guy, loaded the car (had been sitting in the barn for 6 months...) and headed for an ATM where I emptied my bank account. I got to the garage, gave the guy is 1000$ back and told him I bought the car. When he saw it arrive 5 minutes later, he was pissed at first but couldn't blame me.
3 months of tuning, cleaning and adjusting, and she was on the road.
OOoh man... what a ride. We had it at 240HP on the dyno, all coming from a 1.4L turbocharged 4-banger mounted at the back. I drove it for a few months until I went to a local car expo where lots of European car owners would hang out. People LOVED the R5... so much that one guy offered me 20 grand for it... which I took. That financed 3 years of rally racing.
My father in law found a numbers matching 427 '68 Vette in a hanger at a airstrip in Northern Ontario. He paid the guy $20K and is giving it the full body off resto. The last insurance appraisal estimated it at 75K.
The lastest "find" was my buddy buying the Camaro off Canada's Worst Driver 5. It's the red one you see sometimes in previews but I don't think they aired the episodes of it yet where it gets tortured. They had a Vette but blew the motor. Ran out and paid a guy 6K for this thing. Did the brakes and made sure it was road worthy. They beat the hell out of it for two episodes and he grabbed it for $1300 at the end of the show.
He didn't even really want it, but the price was right. We were off to Michigan on the weekend. Two doors, rear bumper, a posi unit and he ordered two new replacement fenders. It's not my cup of tea 1992 (I believe) Camaro, but he's having fun fixing it for the wife.
I just want to rub it in when the episodes air on how badly his car gets tortured. Good entertainment value now that he owns the car now.

I had that experience this summer actually. My Friend was looking for a classic car and he wanted model T camero or a charger. Well he ended up picking up a Road runner in a barn in smith falls. Almost no rust car was used for stock racing and was in there for 5 years. He got it working 2 weeks ago changed the carb and she is functional. Him and I have been hunting for parts for this thing not much luck but hell its fun. Plus i love the sound of that car it got a nice sound.
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.

It's been at least 32 years since my Dad sold out our blue 64 or 65 Chevy Nova SS to some young car punk despite my early teenaged protests to preserve it for "my" future. He got it brand new only because our original car was totalled in a T bone collision that nearly took my young (as in months old) life. I've never quite forgiven him (for selling my car). How in the world he talked my mom into another 2 door when he later replaced that with a Chevy Nova Concours is beyond me... I didn't get to keep that one either but I did get to drive it into the ground practically (big car for such a skinny teenager) before my parents moved to Ontario.
There is definetly no shortage of car folks on this site. A good representation of big blocks as well which is a pleasant surprise. I've attached a pic of my main gem, it has a big block as well that has been cammed up to make little kids cry. The pics is applicable cause the garage was just finished and more importantly the 400 sq ft loft above (not shown) is the games room that I am now starting to work on. Will post up those pics as it moves from storage space to pinball (air hockey, etc etc) dwelling.
Great site, thanks. It's always been my dream to restore a mid 70's/second generation Camaro (my neighbour had one growing up, and I always loved it). One day!

Make sure that's what you want. Cars are a serious money pit....much more so than pinball. My RX7 is in great shape and I just dropped over $800 for a new exhaust system, $90 for steel break lines, $150 for a bushing kit, etc. It adds up real quick. And if you start with a true project, you can very, very, very quickly put in more money than the car is worth.
Personally I think it is better to buy a nice example and take it from there.
At the begining of the thread , i forgot about my Vauxhall Envoy Special 1961 , 4 cyl. 1,500cc international , 3 speeds trany , shifter on the wheel ...
I didn't want to put any evidence of breaking the law on youtube.
If it were on a track things would have been a little different.
It's straight and metal. Always have issues though that can be worked on. Seals get dry over the winter and I need a complete set of window felts. Just ongoing crap really with owning any car let alone owning one for this long. It gets the attention it needs over time. I do drive it, just like my pinballs, people do play them. I am confident enough with fixing things that if I f' it up I will fix it anyway.
Ragtops are nice, but on this model you need the fastback. They actually called it a flatback for the three years of production. The most rediculous rear windshield. Most sloped fastback I have ever seen. You can't see mess and the blindspots are massive, but it looks fantastic. I have to always gas it and go ahead on lane changes, since checking your blind spot with a head turn is pretty much useless.
I love Mustangs, buddy of mine had a beautiful white 70 boss 302, sold it for 1000 in 1989 I passed up a 1969 Mach 1, with the motor rebuilt( but out of it), back in 1992 for 1500$, kicking myself in the a$$ for that one, also almost bought a 66 289, 4 spd, running for 2500$ a few years ago, but was driving my 2000 at the time.
I recently had an opportunity to buy a nice black 1971 datsun 240 z with a nice body kit, triple webers for 1000$, I like those cars as well, have had quite a few Z cars including a 74 260 Z and two 81 280 zx's. It was in the shed where I store some games out east, but guy turned out to be a mental case, and we had a falling out. Too bad
What's a shame now is kids today can't afford this stuff. I was 16 running around in this car, and my buddies had Cudas, Challengers, a Super Bee, Mustangs (Boss 302, Mach1 and a mighty Boss 429 to name a few), a BB Chevelle, an El Camino, 442, Camaro's, an AMX and pretty much everything else in the musclecar spectrum. Now with the cost of anything fun and the price of insurance it's impossible unless dad is Bill Gates. I heard they even ding these kids extra if thier car is just plain red.
I bought my first car toy when I was 15. 20 years later I still own it but its been under cover for 10 years since I met my wife and the vid/pin hobby took over. Now it needs a complete overhaul again but it was a fun toy. I used to be able to do some decent wheelies on the inclines going into parking lots like McDonalds with the rear mounted VW engine and no weight in the front. My dad talked me into getting it back then because he grew up with a Bug. He then aught me all the donut, e-brake and drifting tricks in the fields before I even hit the road. I will NEVER sell it. Then when I was 17 I bought a 79 TA with T-tops and a 6.6L 403bbl. MAN now that was fun in high school. The cops did not like me, that is for damn sure!

Yes, and the saddest thing is that the whiney tone of a honda( will always be a family car to me) has replaced the roar and rumble of a muscle car.Something about the shaking, sort of uncomfortable ride , and the feeling that the car might not be that well made and fall apart at the seams, appeals to me, but maybe Im just a section 8.
Something about the shaking, sort of uncomfortable ride
Actually my car is pretty big and comfy inside for an average sized person. Great car on the highway with the exception of the 3.91 gears that rev the hell out of it.

Project? Go south I would say. Anything left in a field up here is a can of rust in most cases. You might find a car that someone half assed made into a drag car that has all the right elements for a good price and bring it back to original up here though.
I would recommend checking how well the car is supported for aftermarket parts before choosing a model to restore. My car was brutal to get parts for up until recently re-manufactered parts started showing up for it. They had tons of stuff for 65 to 70 but not much after that for years. Look at places like Year One to see what you can get. You don't want to be trying to hunt bone yards for old parts anymore unless it's one that specifically deals in certain cars (they do exist). Otherwise Epay also seems to have a lot of parts but stuff that needs to be perfect you need it repro'd as NOS is pretty much non-existant anymore.
You in fact can build cars from scratch if you have enough coin. Take a busted up donor and build a new car from it. It ain't cheap but if the car has the right numbers it can be worth it.

Ok so you had to find my Achilles heel, muscle pony cars.
I didn't sleep a wink you SOB after this post thinking about the prospects of trading years off years of hard work and mountains of money for that thing of yours. That horrible despicable Chev. Chev an entry level mans car. It's brown... dirt is brown. I am feeling better already.
I convinced myself it wasn't worth it. Please do not post any of the following things as I do need my rest:
Picture of the top down. Proof of numbers matching. Pictures showing it in really nice condition (any rust or dent photos will help with my insomnia and are welcome) Picture of a four gear in it. Any photos that make it look desireable in any way.

This pretty much would be #1 for various reasons to me. 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible. One of 11 ever built. Very few ticked off every option on the Mopar build sheet to build this car. Going for the top side of $2,000,000.00 a pop. Yes that is Million.
If it's a car thread I've got to throw my '65 mustang convert into the mix. The colour is black cherry. It is a resto mod with a 2005 5.0 in it. Turn the key and go. A bit of a cam, no smog BS on it, and 3.73 gears make her go pretty good. It's not made for speed though. Classics are for cruising, with a little bit of chirp here and there.
The first one is a 66 Chevelle which has been in the family since 1971,the second was my grandfathers 1965 Pontiac Custom Sport and only has 60000 miles on it.And the last one is my 66 El Camino which will be for sale soon

Nice Chevelle! My dad had a 67 Beaumont that was extremely rare. 1 of 1 to be exact. The factory goofed when they built it and it was the only one with the sport trim and a police pack 327 under the hood! My grandmother still talks about when my dad was in his Beaumont with my mom, her and my grandfather, and he streetraced against a 427 Vette. They apparently were even the whole way. He sold that car for BIG money years later...
A lemon-sucking Edsel??? Forget that... you need a sweet 1956 F100 pulling that Airstream.
Yeah, I like the idea of an Old Truck too, or a Cool Wagon, Maybe a Woody, Surf Boards on the roof...

I guess I'm a bit less typical. If I was prepared to part with the cash at this point in my life, here is something I could happily live with as my summer car:
I'm thinking a Pro Street Nomad. (I'm a sucker for hopped up Nomad's)

Oh Yeah, Very cool!! I had to go look 'em up. I'll take one please!

What's the El Camino worth? That would be cool to tow the 57 Airstream with!
Dave (Looking for an interesting Tow vehicle, but can't find an Edsel wagon)
The Camino still needs alot of work to finish and I just have no intrest in the car anymore.I stopped when I pulled the body off to install a new floor, and that is how it sits now With the 396 and turbo 400 I would be looking for around $7500

The airstream looks great and agree with the 56 or any 50's truck for that matter. Here's one a '55 that I found in a row of cedars, not a barn but still well preserved. Not for sale but you can still find stuff like this in the country side. Sometimes way back in the country side check out the cow path I had to tow it out on.
Love the Beaumont story can't imagine drag racing with my inlaws the old lady has enough to scream about
My buddy had a '76 like that. It was pretty nice until he dismantled it with the help of a highway guardrail. Another guy had a 69 Convertible with a 427 in it. Riding in that thing was suicide. Lap belt only and most of your body felt like it was sticking out above the door line. You felt like your were going to fall out and if it ever flipped sayonara.

Update....
I went back a few weeks ago, and found out it is a Corolla!!!! with the gas tank between the trunk and the back passengers' seats.
