Makes $8K for a MM pretty small potatoes doesn't it ?

Although, if you look closely,
it does look like this is in fact the "real" Bo Duke's (aka. John Schneider) car.

I think that's actually him in the pics, and his ebay account ( john-s-ebiz)
would seem to match.

Still, they made hundreds of those cars, why is this one so special ????

(...it wouldn't be worth that even if Daisy Duke was naked in the back seat !
... ok, well. maybe !   )

Cheers
Steph

Collector car market has gone nuts the last few years. They spend more on one car   we do on our whole collections, but to each his own.

Guess you didn't actually READ the text in the auction

This isn't one of those 'disposable' cars that the studio built for the show..  This car was built as the main actor's personal race car that looks the General Lee.  In fact it was built WAY after the series was off the air..  It was subsequently used in the last original cast reunion movie ( 1998 ) and as the template for the new Dukes of Hazard movie.

It's a mean race car (725HP) but not worth over 2M$ IMHO even WITH the autographs

Probably not street legal.

You used the correct word "INSANE". I cannot believe what people pay for some of those vehicles, plus a 12% Buyers Premium. Will not argue over the quality of the restorations, but $250,000 for a car that sold $10,000 new?

Actually, I did read the text auction,
and yes I know this car is more "special" than the disposable ones
(race-built, autographed, etc... ),
but my point is that there is nothing "unique" about this one
other than the person who owned it, and the signatures.

Anyone can build a car like that for $30-40K and you'd never know the difference.

Sure, there is a certain collector "cachet" about this particular car,
but c'mon, 2,7 M !!!!!!!  ?????  100K would have be too much already....

Must be nice to have that kind of cash to waste....
(... BTW ,  I have a nice Robotron for sale for $75,000 !   )

Everything that has been owned by celebrities gets sold high... why would this car be exception ?

I dont care myself if Roger Waters owned or not my coffee mug but i'm sure a lot of people would pay big price to get one he only put his hand on once...

Wasnt there a virgin Mary grill-cheese that sold for 35000$ Us on Ebay a few years ago

Yes, I believe so,  along with a vial of Elvis' spit which sold for $5000,
and a Pac-man looking potato chip that sold for $100 !

I'm going outside now to find a rock that looks a celebrity
and I'll be rich beyond my wildest dreams !

;-p

Hey Steph,

Not to take away from your original point (over $2M is crazy), but I think you would be looking at about $100K CDN to build a similar car. I know someone that just restored a Mustang to like new condition and it cost $60K. And he had the car to start with. If you had to buy the car, buy the motor, etc. I think at the end of the day it would be $80K to $100K to build the same thing -- about double your quote --- and that's assuming you can find a reasonably priced car to start with. Still alot cheaper than $2M USD.

The thing that bothers me about restoring old cars: Forget the nostalgia or history of it, etc.  A new car is so much more powerful and reliable than a 30 year old restored one.   Why spend $60k on an old Mustang when you can buy a 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500 for $55k CDN?  It is so shiny and new (even more than an exceptionally well restored car can look)....

Hmm, old crappy 30 year old car with some movie history or Ferrari F430 or 911 Turbo S....
