As someone who somehow missed out on Tron in the 80s, and only recently watched it, I'm not too interested in this movie. It had great effects for the time, but I don't think the sequel will be nearly as important as the first.

Agreed...
This movie will likely only attract the "geeks" that saw the first movie as teens and have a nostalgic attachment to it. (...because I remember not thinking much about it back in 1982 either... ).
My interest in this movie is more for nostalgia than actual entertainment.
Which leads me to think that unless this movie can wow the IPOD/Xbox generation, ...it will likely tank...
Never believe a word on imdb before a film is released. It's almost always wrong.

It all depends what they do with the license what the audience will be.
Flamesuit on but 1983 Transformers G1 beginnings had little more appeal than HeMan. At the time would this seem to translate into a blockbuster? Hardly. Look at what the movie recently did at the box office.
I would say this film is going to be totally evolved and other than the basic premis and a few tie in's to the original in an attempt to stay true to the old farts, it will be entirely revamped.
well, the fact that it is no longer actors in suits, but CGI characters with an actor's face on them is different. And the preview shows a less "linear" feel to it, unlike the original.

Albeit an incredibly stupid movie (probably the worst I've seen in years), I'd hardly call the new Transformers a failure.. it's raked in $379 million so far
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)

The success of Transformers is a credit to the concept, nothing more. We now have the technology to actually show giant robots beating the crap out of each other. It's that premise that sold the movie. Light cycles just ain't gonna cut it, IMO. I hope I'm proved wrong!

Another one I will wait for the DVD to see but then again I don't fall into the demographic movie producers rely on so they don't make films for my benefit.
Sounds like they aren't making them for yours either.

It is a Michael Mann movie... a weak story gets buried under lots of special effects.
Michael Bay's movies are sometimes entertaining. The Rock was fun, Armageddon is great if you can forget high school physics, but some of his other movies make me want to scream or fall asleep, Bad Boys 2, Pearl Harbour, and Transformers 2 are some of the worst movies I have ever seen!

Here's Transformer 2 summed up in a 1 minute video:

Definitely going to go see this movie when it comes out, even if it is only for the nostalgia. I love the secret room @ Flynn's with the bike, Frackin' amazing!
