Need something for hauling dirt, wood, rocks, sports equipment, and maybe a pin once in a while ... Looking to spend 6K max. Prefer 2WD for better fuel economy.
I've been reading online reviews but I'd like to hear from somebody who actually owns or owned one.

Thanks
Adam

Go 2WD. If you really don't have the use for 4WD your pushing a lot of extra weight and moving parts (that eventually bust and cost you money) down the road for nothing.

My truck in a 4WD rides like a POS. In the 2WD that I bought it's a smooth ride.

The money you save on a crappy snow day you can afford to get limousine service to take you to work and still have money left in the bank.

Ford vs Chev I wouldn't think is going to be a hell of lot of difference. They are so competitive in this truck market. Buy whatever is going to do the job for less money.

Never seen an S10 with a factory suspension setup meant for hauling anything more than a lawn chair and beer cooler at best...used a Ranger more than once to move stuff, including a pin.

I say go for the best deal that you can find.
Dont just focus on buying one or the other.
If you do see a nice S10 make shure the rear differential is in good shape. I know I had to change the rearend on my s10 4x4 and I know of a few other people that had the same problem on s10's.

I had a Ranger (2 wheel drive) and hauled whatever I wanted, including 4X8 Valley pool tables (1 piece approx.800lbs.) One thing Ford knows how to build is trucks, never had too many problems and I worked it quite hard.

Personally I would look at a mid size Dakota if it's not a lot more. That's what I have and I have ridden the hell out of it and it hasn't cost me much to maintain. The extra bit you get out of the mid seems to accomodate most anything I throw at it. 2 Wheel drive and the six in it puts out enough. It's basically a 318 with the back two cylinders chopped off.

Placed a deposit today... Pick up next wednesday.
Thanks to all for their input.

Not what I was originally looking for but I thought it was too good a deal to pass up.
Any guesses?
