I felt it here for a few seconds in Brampton. Apparently it's a 5.5 in the Quebec/Ontario border area. It wasn't intense here but I've never been in a room that shook even a little bit. Scary stuff.

We had a 5.9 back in January 1982. My mother thought the oil furnace was blowing up, so she rushed the family outside. Looking around all our neighbors were out on their snow covered lawns too! My little brother looks around and says, "hey look, everyone's furnace is blowing up!"

There was an earthquake in Ottawa on a Sunday morning in 2002. I remember waking up and wondering why my bed was rocking back and forth (for a change).

I felt it slightly here. Felt it when I put my hands on my desk. Very faint though.

Ironic... as I renewed my home insurance and refused earthquake insurance yesterday.

Was sitting in an office chair leaning back on a desk touching an adjoining wall. First thought was it must be a really fat person pushing on the wall enough to shake my chair. I remember another mil;d one here years ago as well.

Curious where the epicentre was.

1st time in an earthquake so strong. Wow !

The building here at work shook a lot - moving quit a bit horizontally
for a few seconds (I'm on the 3rd floor). Not a good feeling swinging
on a top level. Must have been worse downtown Ottawa in tall rises.

I was concerned that if it was worse/stronger or continued longer,
there could/would have been a lot of damage/injuries, inc.
natural gas leaks, etc.

Luckily, there are no report of serious things, yet anyway
(and hopefully it will stay that way!)

There could be some aftershocks, however typically they are
much weaker.

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

My first earthquake in a high rise..  It was definitely different than on the ground.  Usually you feel the shift from side to side (and you hear it).  This time it was more of an up-and-down bounce with no sound..  Kinda like riding in a truck on a shitty dirt road..  The building was getting some harmonic bounces too, like hitting a pothole..  Freaky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway... this was nothing compared to quakes I had in Romania. Some being in high buildings! NOW that is fun.

The sky is falliong the sky is falling.

No hack on anyone here but people were freaking out...some said a bomb went off, others refused to back into the shoppers drug mart I was at; foolish.

I am from Vancouver and I have been in quite a few quakes, although this one was a good shake. Anyway, like Sylvain said it is rare that follow up quakes (Aftershocks) are very big, especially if you are not on a big fault line.

Good fun though to see all the stuff on the floor in the store and seeing people over react. Must have been terrorism.

Current Lineup:
Black Knight, Riverboat Gambler, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Flintstones, Orbitor 1, Wipe Out, Breakshot, The Simpsons Pinball Party, Fish Tales, Eight Ball and a 60 in 1 Cocktail.

I am in Burlington and felt nothing at all. My wife was at home in Mississauga and she says it felt like a plane flying low overhead everything shook in the house.

If I was playing pinball, I guess the game would have tilted.

Felt it pretty strong in Brantford.... the walls were moving!  It happened in the middle of a meeting... my chair started rocking back and forth - couldn't figure out why.... until I looked up at the walls...  very cool, yet scary at the same time.  I'd like to know how strong it was in Brantford, ON.  Seams pretty far away from Ottawa.  I wouldn't think it should have been that strong!

Oh well.... real life education.

I was in L.A. for the July 2008 earthquake.  It measured 5.5 as well but based on the reports it seems to have been stronger.  I was in a bank in the L.A. area at the time and the floor moved so rapidly beneath me that it was difficult to keep my balance, almost like surfing.   The signs hanging from the ceiling were swinging wildly and stuff fell off the shelves.    Did today's quake appear to have this effect closer to the epicentre ?

I was on the 12th storey at work. Yup it was more of an intnese up and down accompanied by a relatively loud rumble (as the building shook). The intense part lasted about 3 - 5 seconds followed by the building shaking/moving for a minute after that. It was a quick adrenaline rush but I will never forget the looks on some of the peoples faces.

I was asleep (trying to shake a stupid sinus infection) here in Waterdown but hubby said the glass doors on our tv stand shook and moved out and he thought it was another blast gone wrong  (they were doing blasting on the road near here a week back, used too much explosive and actually sent the dampening mats up 15 feet in the air which knocked out power and cable for the day).

There was one on Mr Pinball that had been lovingly restored by HEP. Asking price was in the $9K US range I believe. No doubt it is still for sale.

Go get it!

Ten SS games...but 8 is my limit!

We were lucky that there was very little damage and no reported injuries.
... It could have been a lot worse.

Now, turn off that darn shaker motor

Cheers,

Ha ha. Do you work at the button of a runway?

I missed the whole thing.

No I was in the Eaton Centre but I work at BCE Place (now Brookfield place), I guess there was a couple of copters doing maneuvers downtown at the time so some of the folks on the trade floor figured it was them ... but as we know they were wrong.

That's ok my ever crusty Sgt/Maj thought it was tanks rolling by. I'm starting to think he may be having signs of latent shell shock.
