Where can I go to replace the motherboard for less than the $500 that Dell is asking?
Thanks for looking. |

We had a 2-second power outage while lightening struck on Mon night. I was surfing on my Acer Aspire at the time and it wouldnt restart afterward. Took it in for service for $199.00 US + tax. Last time this happened they replaced the motherboard but now the warranty lapsed.
WTF is a power bar supposed to do anyway? The packaging said coverage up to $12,000. but who keeps the box and receipt anyway?
Acer= best bank for the buck but 2x motherboard poofed. |

I am still using my 6400 as my main machine (cheap bastard that I am, and now I HATE Dell for anything but business quality refurb stuff), but since the screen is starting to fade...you've both got me worried! |

dont bather with Dell.....I'd never buy another one again...ever! I had a Dell that when started up I thought it was gonna fly across the room.....2 minutes later the fan fried ...cause...bad motherboard. Dell wouldnt back it up and would have cost me $400 to fix....its now a boat anchor and I have a perfectly working HP. |

to OP.. In the Inspiron 9400 is usually the graphic card that craps out, unless you dropped it or something. Not the motherboard. If you got the ceap version that has built in vid card then ok, it is the mobo...
If the heatsinks get clogged with dust/hair/crap, your laptop will overheat and fail. Most of the time is the video card that fails first.
If you are handy at it, open it all the way, take the heatsinks and fans out and blow some compressed air to clean them up. Put a bit of new thermal paste on processor when you reassemble it.

Actually, the vid card had already been replaced from overheating previously. Now it simply won't accept power for more than a second. No boot whatsoever. But you're probably right, it might have overheated again but I'm pretty sure it isn't the vid card this time around. |

I am also in the process of getting my Dell XPS 1730 replaced with a AW 17x. Bad design of the duel 8800 graphic cards and over heating was a major problem. A simple Bios fix to turn the fans on sooner would of fixed them before they cooked. Didn't you know Dell = Don't Ever Last Long |

Everytime your Dell gets serviced you get refurbished parts. Some will last more than the others. My money is still on the videocard. It will not boot up if it's defective.
If you do try to replace it, try gettin an ATI not Nvidia. They heat less, so even if your heatsinks get clogged they will not die as quick. |

Yeah, the 8800 in XPS1730 has the same issue. If you get an ATI in it.. it will not crap out as fast from heat. Dell messed with the fan speed but never got it right. PPl would complain that " now the fans make more noise" ... oh well ..lol |
