I finally bring back to life my first ever project, an EM Zig Zag, first time in 18 years that a game can be start on it if I believe last owner. Make a new switch, change a few coils, a couple of crack solders and a ton of switches cleaning and adjusting. But that's the easy work... still a lot a job to do:
1. Need need flippers, rubbers and I have to make a new window for the backbox animation (just racking ball when bonus score, last plastic window warp with the heat, a ball get stuck near a lamp and it melt in it)... 2.After that it need a full complete clean-up, big PF touch-up clear-coating, BG touch-up. Last owner repaint the cabinet, but now it's smoker white (yellow and we can see brush stroke and the masking tape line he used for the detail.
What's bug me is the two damaged plastics, probably won't find any replacement for them so even if I restore it, it will never be 100% complete... So the question is how time and money will I put on it... I don't do this for the money, the profit line is past a long time ago EM are very time consuming!
Would you restore a project like this or do the minimum on it and go for the next project?

Not a bad EM actually, I fixed/shopped a similar Williams Wing Ding pinball machine for a co-worker last year.
In my opinion and experience, it is worth repairing, re-rubbering and performing a minimum of shopping (including PF clean and wax, new ball, plastic window, bulbs, etc.) on almost any EM, unless the PF is beat or bad/missing BG. Repainted cabs adds to the question too.
But forget about artwork retouching and PF clearcoating - unless you are planning to keep the game forever, or if you just want to practice your skills. These EMs are not worth very much, and performing the additional work is a sure money-losing bet. But it is fun to do if you do not count the $.
Bonne chance ! - Sylvain.
Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

Sylvain is right, as most EMs average around 500$, but worse case scenario, if you want to have the playfield done, send me pics by email... I will be able to tell you if it is worth it or not.

Don't give up on that aspect. YOu're right, you'll probably never find replacements, but with a little searching, you might be able to reproduce what you're missing. I'm in the process of restoring a 1959 woodrail Williams Crossword, and it is missing one plastic and one was broken. The others are dirty but cleanable and intact. Anyway, I searched around for other owners of this pin, emailed every single one I could find, and lo and behold, a guy had perfect scans of the plastics that he sent me. Give it a try. You know from this forum how helpful people are, and I've so far found that most hobby pin guys would share anything. Good luck, Daniel
You can see pictures on my project on my FACEBOOK page... but here the PF with the damaged palstics, only the clear part(the left center "arm" broken, center plastic cracked in the middle), easy to reproduce? I have to go, a game of ultimate frisebee
