Hard to read the last part, but assuming that the sequence approaches zero, the sum of the series is less than 1, so the cheque amount is over $535.   That's a pretty expensive phone bill.  No wonder he/she is pissed.

not too sure about the calculus but what does "e" denote?

I think the spring one is related to Force= Mass x Acceleration where acceleration is g, zero friction, force is the resistance of the spring vs dropping weight.

What a dumb a** question to ask if something moves after it's come to a "rest". "It's at rest a-hole; by definition it has stopped moving."

Likely would have been my answer regardless of knowing what they were looking for. It's no wonder I ended up spending so much time sitting in front of the VP.

My bet is he did a lot better in art class than physics.

My son goes to a Catholic school and plans to use the " God made it that way" answer.......

e=limit as n goes to infinity of (1+ 1/n) to the exponent n.
Does not look as elegant as I can do in class with my smartboard but this is the definition we work with.  roughly e = 2.718281828.... and does not repeat.  
Here comes the flames.

I think everyone of those students derserve full marks.

Just had a student today remind me of an exam question he answered last year about Canada, our automotive bailouts, and the recession. (the actual question slips my mind right now, probably because I've been drinking, but it was an Entrepreneurial Studies or Intro to Business course).. His response:

The answer is no better than what you get from all the Wallstreet Harvard grad business gurus after something has happened. Ask them what is going to happen and the answer is even more ridiculous. Full marks.
