in the past few weeks, MAACA looks more like a Canadian version of 'R.G.P.' with all the bashing than what MAACA 'used' to be: Fun, friendly and resourceful...

I think it is time to have a new rule. All personal venting and issues dealing with sales or purchases gone bad, should be banned or at least moderated in a manner that it does not become a bashing session. Maybe it needs a special category that does not appear on the main portal and let them go nuts in there, I personally do not want to read other peoples garbage. People are brave in front of a keyboard and do not hesitate to speak their mind and hence the comments that have been flying around the last few weeks. I understand protecting other members from bad sellers, but the last few weeks have been excessive and often very personal. |

Agreed. I am on other forums and when things get out of hand, moderators come in and stop it...for example the ...cgcc... post Afraid society and, it appears, forums need police. I like Enzo's comment. That's what they do on rx7club.com They have a section called Good/Bad Sellers. Although I would not agree with the "..go nuts there". I think it should still be moderated. The largest part of the problem, which you guys have nailed on the head, is the fact that certain people are airing their dirty laundry in a public forum instead of working out via PM's and E-mail. I have made that point many times before in the posts in question. |

I'll apologize right now for contributing to the scandals, for some reason the "pile on" mentality takes over online, and particularly at this time of year when stress levels seem at their highest. It's unbelievable the amount of "bad news" I have been hearing lately, between deaths, cancers and breakups (none related to my family, thanklfully, knock wood), it seems like everyone needs to vent a little frustration. Also, of course, this is high season for pin sales / trades and basement cleanouts before winter sets in. It is interesting how people show their true colours and niavete when bashing others though (and usually it reflects on the person doing the bashing, not the bashee), although I guess each person should have a fair chance to prove themselves to other members, it is nice to at least know who the oddballs are. Oh damn, I just did it again. Having started and participated in many, many online forums and BBS over the past 25 years, I'd say that this is one of the best self-regulated ones I've been on. At least without moderation there isn't a heavy handed egotistical list owner obsessing over everything everyone says. For the most part the list does seem to be self regulating, and I suppose there's at least some entertainment for those who want to read the gossip.... Although I've only met a fraction of the MAACA forum members (due to locality), those I have met, those I haven't but whom I've dealt with or even traded info with have been some of the most helpful, sincere and interesting people I have met in recent history. It is a great, great cohesive group. Is there a way individuals can set threads to be ignored/hidden? |

Yes there is. click the "member center", under "Personal Forum Preferences" is a User Message Block. You can then put all the admins under there ... oh wait ... that probably has no effect ! |
