I built one for my Dad as a fathers day gift a couple years ago.  I used the Russian IN-14 tubes (if memory recalls).  I sourced the tubes direct from Georgia, and the PCB's and PIC from these guys...

I have a bunch of the IN-14 tubes in my inventory and I'm hoping to build another for myself, but I've also been holding out for a decent price on a set of the IN-18 tubes so....  Who knows, maybe I'll just make one of each.

These things definitely bring out the geek factor in me, but I don't care, I think they are cool.

The IN-18 are the best tubes in my opinion.  There's a bunch of clocks on ebay and some even have gps, and temp.  I like the clocks that have the hour, min, and sec.  They are pretty geeky but visitors love them.  There a good conversation piece
