I got a phone call about a half an hour ago, from a man who called himself "Max Brown". Thick Indian accent (Thick enough given I work with and have a few friends, who's accents I do not notice) alone met me with suspicion. Nothing "racist" about it, but please...c'mon?

He was calling to tell me he could get my credit card interest rate lowered to 3%. Sounds good so I play along, until he starts asking for numbers...at which point, I turn into that prick you know and love. You know, the guy who scares solicitors coming to his door? The guy who tells telemarketers to "F**K off" when they don't get the hint the first time? But I do so in "Smoke you out, make you seem like a moron" fashion. I do it with tact...I know you're trying to sell me stuff, and do your job...but you don't get it the first time, you're gonna know it.

He asks for my expiry date on my card. Sure, no harm...on it's own. I'm still wondering here.
He asks for my Security Pin on the back of my card. Really? You think I'm giving that to you do ya? Nope, now you're caught.
He asks for the last 8 digits of my card...now it's on, you still think you can fool me. I'm not giving you them, but you'll give me what I ask...

Give me more information, a website a phone number...some more to work with. So that in 5 minutes I can turn around and call the OPP, which I do and I am forwarded to fraud prevention.
I'm on the National Do Not Call List, my own bank wouldn't ask me for my security pin and he got pretty belligerent once he realized I wasn't falling for it, trying to talk his way around me.

Please people! Not everyone is smart enough to realize they're being duped, warn anyone you know that could easily be duped that this stuff is happening again, locally. The call was from Markham, from this guy claiming to be from "Liberty National Financial".
P.S. NOBODY but your bank can get you a lower interest rate...banks don't deal with 3rd parties for anything but marketing and surveys. EVER
