I am only a Star Trek Original Series fan but love both the Theme song to ST:TNG and the Pinball machine (pretty decent alright).  Picard's voice, the asteroids & other DMD animation is ok.  That initial metal loop that the ball goes through to get the the playfield is great.

But there is something about IJ that one just cannot say no to.  Perhaps just that Hero that Indiana is, maybe that pivoting mini playfield, the turning idol head, or the amazing video modes that this machine has!

I think that you will find the opinions being mixed here for sure.

Good luck with either one (or both if budget allows)!

Vids: Crystal Castles, Gauntlet/Gauntlet II, Donkey Kong Jr., Ms. Pac-Man, Vs. Super Mario Bros. (other Vids in storage - for now)
Pins: White Water [WH2O]

Go with what you like for theme. both pins are solid... you can lose on either one. If you a IJ fanboy or a trekkie that should sway the vote.

I would say IJ wins hands down.  Much wider audience base if you are looking for a game that appeals to many people old and young.  My 4 year old girl loves IJ - with the gun and the cracking of the whip.  The game play is awesome for advanced players - SUUUUPER JACKPOT!  And just as much fun for amatures - DONT TOUCH ANYTHING.

I find that people either really like Star Trek or they don't like it at all (like my wife).  Everyone loves Indy.

The fact that IJ is higher priced tells you that it is probably more desirable and appeals to a broader audience.

All said and done including cost of machine, shipping and repairs I have spent over $5000 on my IJ and would not trade it for two STTNG.  Buy the nicest IJ you can because once you have it you will want to keep it forever!

Both machines are high maintenance and will eventually give you headaches if you know nothing about maintaining them.  Sometimes sooner than later

Both sound amazing with a subwoofer kit.

Mike installed the sub kit in my IJ, and its WICKED....only problem is you can't play it at 2AM without others in the house knowing you're playing.....it really does make the game even more fun to play IMO when its nice and LOUD. I'll be looking for a sub kit in A'town for both my G and R and STTNG...

Both games are great. Tough Choice. I would choose STTNG because it is hard game (with those outlanes and open playfield). Balls don't tend to last too long and this should make for a more competitive match amoungst friends (The "house" has a smaller home-field advantage with STTNg than with IJ).

I love both themes but given a choice I would choose a STTNG (but only if you already have a TZ)   You really should try playing first though (Note that it is really hard to make a decision based upon a few games however. Of course that is usually what you have to do unless you can find one at a location which gives you the opportunity to play many times over the course of a few days).

When it comes to price, I agree that it will increase with the new movie but I think it will eventually (long term) drop once Stern releases the new IJ pin.

Good luck with that choice. Eventually like many of us you will find that each game finds a place in your heart and you will end up wanting them all. So many pretty pins, so little money and space!!!

I am discovering that the key is: (infinite money, infinite space, infinitely understanding partner)!

Pins owned:
Bally - Twilight Zone (1993)
Williams - Star Trek The Next Generation (1993)
Bally - Scared Stiff (1996)
Stern - Lord of the Rings (2004)
