A very persistent fellow from the US is offering to trade me his very decent ST:TNG (no mods, no wear) for my Gottlieb Spirit (minor playfield wear, fully functional, decent cabinet, perfect backglass): http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=2292.
This would likely be a no-brainer for some but I'd like to hear your opinions as I'm on the fence with this deal. Thanks.
http://www.pinballowners.com/ottogd Pins: Congo - High Speed - Cue Ball Wizard - Spirit - Eye of the Tiger - Quintette - Spectrum - Guys Dolls - Catacomb - Road Kings - Police Force - Cyclone - TX-Sector Vids: Asteroids - Centipede - Galaga - Joust - Ms Pacman - Super Sprint - Atari Cocktail (60-in-1) - Vectrex EM shooter: Midway Gang Busters EM Pitch & Bat: Upper Deck Slot: IGT 'M' Progressive ('86)
Sounds like a no-brainer, but as with any machine it depends on how much you value Spirit. Its a tough to find machine while STTNG is available all the time despite it having a much higher value. It sounds like he's a Gottlieb collector who really needs a Spirit to fill out his collection. I'd go for it unless Spirit is in your top 3. STTNG is a very challenging and deep game.
Rebuilding...currently Scared Stiff, Guns N'Roses, Bally Harley Davidson, Fish tales, Slugfest, JVL Conquest standup, and a Wurlitzer Juke.

I am on the fence for this one myself. Spirit is fun game and hard to find if your done with it i say hell ya if not you might want to play it more i suggest sitting on it for a bit because never know when you will get another.
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
I personally would not go for it (would keep my Spirit).
Not because of $/value, but due to Spirit being *so* difficult to find, and frankly quite different, fun and spooky. Besides, I am not into DMDs, and not at all into Star Trek The Next Generation...
Spirit would be amazing next to a Haunted House and a Black Hole. The 'awsome threesome' from Gottlieb, in my humble opinion...
Cheers, - Sylvain.
Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!
The rime of the ancient game:Hight hand,LAE,6MDM,Spiderman,Freddy, South park,Night rider,Elvis,Lethal weapon,EBD,Power play,Pinbot,Lotr, CFTBL,CV,Getaway,CBW,BK,JM,BTC,JD,VND,SPIDERMAN,TOM
I think if you are motivated by the financial gain of the trade, then it's a very smart move. The fact that you're considering it tells me you're not entirely attached to the Spirit, anyway. Rarity is fun and interesting in a collection, but if the game does nothing for you, then why keep it? Because other people are telling you to keep it? When you have limited space and means, then rarity doesn't mean squat compared to playability or interest (that is, if you're not entirely attached to Spirit). Personally, having played both (but the Spirit only once) I'd keep the Spirit, I liked it better than STTNG. Then again, it's not in my basement!
