How would you MAACA collector types rank the top 5 by decade? top-5 70's, top-5 80's, top-5 90's and top-5 post williams?
I started thinking about this after reading about Sparky and his Flash Gordon. I loved that machine when I was a kid. Hell. I even loved the movie but don't count that against me. I haven't played a Flash in many many years but I bet it would still be a blast. From the 80's I also really liked Space Invaders, Xenon, Black Hole and Haunted House. However, I have to admit I think Xenon may have potted most of my quarters in those early days.
Pins owned: Bally - Twilight Zone (1993) Williams - Star Trek The Next Generation (1993) Bally - Scared Stiff (1996) Stern - Lord of the Rings (2004)
My heavy pinball playing years only span from about 1976-1984. Since then mostly Visual Pinball.
Best 70's machine was Flash, hands down. Hope I still enjoy it as much once the restoration is complete. Chimes just don't do it for me, so that rules out most of the 70's competition.
Xenon is beautiful to look at but I didn't enjoy playing it all that much. Centaur, Fathom, or even Embryon blow it away. Then there's Firepower, Blackout, Iron Maiden... all by 1981! Top 5 for the entire decade would be really tough to call.
As for newer machines - I'll have to play a few more before offering any opinion.
Playable Now: Centaur II, Doctor Who, High Speed. Playable Soon: Breakshot, Sorcerer Later: Flash, Genie, Seawitch Fondly remembered: Firepower
