  There was a post as econd ago on a thread in the Classifieds for Jeffo looking for a sys.11 pin. Necro followed with a post depicting a light bulb with a funny (yet irrelevant to the post content) comment.

Another member followed up with a purely gratuitous, stupid, childish comment with an image of a dildo.... I proceeded to delete the image and was about to reply, but the thread was deleted, so I will do it here... you started it buddy... I am ending it... NOW.

Your image was tasteless and stupid, and so was your comment. Albeit Necro's post is irrelevant to the ad, you comment and attitude is unacceptable. If you get a kick out of posting crap like that just to get a kick out of it, go get your kicks somewhere else and take your crap with you. Consider yourself warned. We are good people here just trying to enjoy a hobby...

And on another matter, your signature is borderline buddy... I love my mother, and I have kicked people's a** for less.


And just to make sure everyone understands:

I have always stayed silent on most of the comments bordering on disrespectful towards women (in the past very rare) as I am definitely a minority but posts, pics and comments by this member have sickened me to the point I almost was prepared to send my first official "PM to Sparky" regarding a thread.

I feel very strongly about what you have just done and applaud you and anybody that knows me personally, knows it takes ALOT for me to ever say something negative about somebody.

Is there a particular reason why you HAVE to post something that presents you as a private?  I'm all for being eccentric but there is a limit to random postings in the threads.  I'm not trying to go all VPFORUMS and present this site as "family friendly" but there are limits bound at the very least to good taste and respect of others.

Sure... some probably found it funny... but there is a way to be funny for some and not funny for others, without falling into the category "funny for some, goddamn offensive for others".

no it doesn't happen alot but sometimes we all get a little out of hand and it happens during the full season swing. people do calm down and they are great bunch of guys  and gals in the group. we dont police too much cause we hate to do it everyone is an adult here they can pretty much handle themselves. but alot of collectors read alot of posts and they get to a point where they need to unplug from the forum for a bit and just play. the forum is addictive i agree but take a break and play or repair those things you bought then you can enjoy the social aspect more after. dont burn out cause when you do you will take a good colector or a newb with you.

Loafer: it'd be better if people posted if they had an answer to my question, in this case something for sale that fits the criteria. While the lightbulb pic did actually make me for real fall outta my chair laughing, since it really was clever, it does get old after a while.

I don't have a problem with it if someone finds it funny, we're all different with each our own sense of humour but it's not wrong to consider if a post is of an appropriate nature.  It is possible to keep posts appropriate for everyone and still cater to the mature crowd, lets just acknowledge there is a limit and as adults, we can use common sense to know where to draw the line.  My personal opinion but we don't need to wreck the entire system and get all out of sorts with members quitting, etc.  If someone flaggantry shows no common sense then I would deal with that individual, there's no need to change all the rules etc.

The classified is a different issue all together and sure it can be addressed but I thought it was. Wasn't there a poll recently where the membership stated "leave as is"?.

Sorry but I disagree with the whole idea of this post.  I do not believe in censorship when it comes to written text.   Is it not the whole point of a forum so people can be free to say what they want and others can agree, disagree or in this case laugh or be offended?

I have no idea what the post said because it was censored/deleted!!!  So now am I supposed to say this guy is the devil because someone thought his post should be censored??  CMON.  That's bull mess.  This is the 21st century and we are on the internet here.  

I think the post should be put back up so that everyone can make up their own minds as to what is offensive and what is not.  If someone is only on the forum to be ignorant, rude and offensive they should be dealt with privately and officially.  However, I don't believe their post should be deleted and a witch hunt started!!!   That to me is more wrong than what the post could have said.

I didn't delete any post... I got flamed enough for doing that last time. And if you believe that my stance on this has changed with time, look up stuff from 2004.

and another thing... it is guys like that that cause good members to leave... notice DiamondDave's comment. I swore that I would not censor... but if it now takes a more stern stance, so be it. I have gotten A LOT of positive PMs on my sudden stance.

Will it hurt membership? Yes... but then again doing nothing will hurt it too, as well as affect the good content of the site.

Thanks for clearing that up - i missed it somehow reading the post.  I agree that the situation was dealt with correctly and fairly.  Great job!  I just hope that members will continue to at least push the envelope a little when it comes to humor and "good-hearted" ribbing.  I, myself, enjoy that stuff.  Keeps things interesting and unpredictable.  

Very happy that there will be no attempt to "censor" anyone's posts.  If there is something badly questionable and it is brought to that person's attention causing them to delete their own post - PERFECT.  Still I wish I could have seen the item in question (but that is just me and not necessarily anyone else).  I do understand.

Hey the post sat for about 6 hours without reply. My bulb was a bump to see if Jeffo could get some real action before his post got buried so deep it would be lost in cyberspace. It was a joke and not made at Jeffo or anyone in particular but just was an indication of how difficult recently it is to drum up some decent project material.

If you find the bulb offensive or just plain "dull" I would be more than happy to remove it.

Look I try to keep things moving along in many cases. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not so good. What can I say, at least I read the posts and respond to try to keep things rolling, hence I have 3 million some odd posts . Some posts replies are good and some not so good (i.e. bulb) but the fact of the matter I am keenly interested in pinball and I guess my enthusiasm is reflected in my involvement here. Yes it was useless fluff, but by the same token I put up a lot of technical in depth discussions on what I am working on, query issues publicly for the greater knowledge of the group in the interest to further stimulate open dialogue, and provide assistance where I can on other topics.

Wow this thread really blossomed in the few hours I was at work tonight. I normally wouldn't comment on a thread such as this because I generally don't have the time or the patience to get worked up over something somebody said or did in a public forum on the internet. I'm just far too laid back for that. What I am seeing here though is one person being persecuted for the same kind of crap that quite a few other people on this forum also do. Some members of this forum have built up sizable post counts with meaningless, mindless, drivel and fluff.

The degradation of a large majority of the posts here and at the other popular Canadian video game forum due to these kinds of postings is the primary reason why I don't contribute anymore and also why I have had to find other avenues to buy and sell machines. There's just too much off-topic yammering going on in a lot of posts. This is just my perspective, but it's rare that I've seen a thread stay on topic for more than a 1/2 dozen responses, and I usually stop checking a thread after the first or second off-topic posting, I just don't have the patience to sift through the garbage.

I do not condone what karmatose posted, yes, it was tasteless and off-colour, but he had the wherewithal to realize he had gone a little over the limit with his response and deleted it without having to be told. He deserves credit for that. His response to everyone coming down on him like a ton of bricks for doing what quite a few other members also do, was not surprising and probably would have been the same response that would have come from most of us, myself included.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we as a community have allowed this to happen by not policing ourselves, and letting people get away with straying way, way off topic, personal attacks and petty bickering in an open, public forum. This is not a responsibility that has to fall to Sparky or any one other individual to police, this is something that we ALL are responsible for. It's up to us as a group and a community to behave like adults. If you don't like someone, don't talk to them, if you have a dispute with someone, take it up with them in private, if you can't resolve it, ask a 3rd party to mediate. If you can't resolve it, fine, suck it up, you're an adult, deal with it. It's time for us to stop acting like a bunch of 2-year-olds in a playground sandbox and act like the adults we are supposed to be. I for one am getting really sick and tired of all the pissing and moaning and whining. I have to sort through enough of that crap reading RGP.

If you think the solution is people are only going to post here with purely technical information and business transactions this forum would be duller than dirt and there would be absolutely no one following it. Case in point this thread, although not a very pleasant topic or discussion it had a tremendous response and number of views. There are other elements beyond plain pragmatism that make a forum interesting. Often people will post that really have nothing to offer but their own curiousity or humor and in doing so stimulate further conversation which may move into areas that would not normally be brought forth. I would like to think there are a few more personalities involved in this hobby than a bunch of pocket protector wearing Dilbert's.


Like I already stated you take the good with the bad and you should know where to draw the line. Going back to when my ad for my sons kart kept getting doctored up; there is a line between funny and offensive and the types of pictures being posted that appeared to be represented by myself, I personally found offensive. Now that was me finding them offensive but others may not have so it could be argued that it is difficult to really know where to draw the line. I understand that Sparky is trying to keep the forum from going down a road that we, he, all, none...most would find offensive (yes it's a very subjective topic). Some including myself will call it censorship but I think there may be a line that was crossed here. Sparky drew the line somewhere because he felt the one post put the forum out of an "E" rating, which is why mine and ToMMy's posts on the same thread were left alone. Arguably goofy posts no doubt but not what I would anticipate to be offensive. I am still working on censoring myself from posting goofy. My therapist says I will need to up the visits to three times a week.

All of this could easily have been nipped in the bud via PM and 99% of members would have been none the wiser. Instead we get this whole drama queen Shakespearean over-analytical tragedy thing going on which only hurts the perception of maaca in the minds of its membership.

The thing I don't get is why anyone is defending this guy???!!  Search the forums at look at the 80 some odd posts he made and tell me you consider him a contributing member of this community.  I didn't see this specifc post but it doesn't change the fact this guy was not a respectful and contributing member of this communtity.  Mabye this specific message wasn't that bad, but it's the culmination of his atitdue that is the reason I see this banning as a good thing.  If you can look at his history, I'm sure you'll agree.  

Look past this single incident and look into the history and you'll see that the Admin staff here made the right call.

The "levelness" of the playfield is that some members have actually met other members and understand the context of their posts, or in light of their "in person" behaviour.  That's why the playfield seems unlevel as far as "poking" comments goes.  But offensive material needs to stay off, offensive members discouraged from posting.  You can never satisfy 100% of the people 100% of the time but there has to be a line somewhere that can't be crossed and that line is set by the owners and administrators of the forum. Period. Like it or lump it.

It is difficult not to "pile on" (the online "mob" mentality) when someone, particularly one where you have bitten your tongue any number of times, starts getting heat.  Then you feel it's necessary to pile on, open up and vindicate. This is one of those cases, I'd have to agree, and that Sparky had to do the dirty work.

Great commentaire Wayne! I agree completely. What appears as off-colour to us onlookers might be an inside joke between two members who are quite familiar with each other and are capable of reading between the lines.

In online forums it is very easy for miscommunication to happen and people to be offended. That is why someone invented "smileys".

Common etiquete dictates that if someone gets offended then the first step is too take it off-line (PM in this case) and try and sort it out. The MAACA community as set up was intended to be about learning, helping and sharing. Lets keep with the spirit - I don't think anyone wants to turn-off the valuable members of the community.

Pinbot if you are interested... plays great, but is a bit rough. Playfield has a cheap fix on it near the middle (satellite dish was probably worn and there is a printed image mylared over the wear... looks ok, but you notice it up close), display #1 is degassing, legs are bent a bit, but I play it every day.

Up to you, make me an offer. I got it as a payment for cab and playfield work. Let me know if you want pics.

Here's my take...
Jeffo and Karma KNOW each other- it was nothing more than a fun jab at a friend- really no different that me calling cooke "Powder" all the time... Corey is a super awesome outrageously NICE guy, and I trully like him and respect him. BUT I do give him the gears from time to time, and he does it to me. As far as I know Corey knows I am F#@*#@# around as I know when he does it to me.

Jeffo and Karma ARE big dildos but so what? I am an a**hole too ( As I am sure Adam will agree too for some reason) I am not a keyboard tough guy,I am cocky and can be arrogant in  REAL LIFE!!!!! You know what? I am sure he is a nice guy... but for the last few months, "quirky" humor of the sort has caused a lot of animosity amongst members and a lot of complaints. I unfortunately have better things to do than answer to a shitload of angry PMs and playing referee on site, like I am now. I won't start this fire up again... not after the weekend I just had.  

... again I say, people who PM you when they're offended by something someone says REALLY need to get a thicker skin or find something more constructive to do than read a forum..

Well.. two things.. with all the On topic, Off Topic.. I have to share...

Jalapeno Cheese Bread
Ingredients:
1 packet of yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
1/4 cup of warm water
4 tablespoons of melted butter
1 egg
2 1/2 cups of bread flour (I used King Arthur) plus more if needed
1 cup of semolina flour
5 jalapenos, stemmed and seeded, diced (should be about a cup)
2 cups of Longhorn (or any other cheddar such as Colby) cheese, grated.
1 cup of buttermilk
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt (can add more to taste)

Method:
1. Mix together the yeast and water.
2. Mix together the melted butter, egg and buttermilk and add to yeast and water.
3. Add the salt, sugar and bread flour to the liquids and mix well. Then add the semolina flour to the dough and mix well. If the dough is too wet, gradually add more bread flour 1/4 cup at a time.
4. Place dough on a floured surface and knead for five to ten minutes until dough is smooth.
5. Form dough into a ball and place into a bowl greased with butter.
6. Cover the bowl, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about an hour.
7. Turn out dough on a floured surface, and slowly knead into the dough the jalapenos and cheese, a little bit at a time.
8. When cheese and jalapenos are incorporated into the dough, place dough into a greased bread loaf pan (8-1/2" x 4-1/2" x 2-3/4). You can also sprinkle semolina in the bread pan for additional friction.
9. Cover the pan and let dough rise until doubled in size (it should be at the top or a bit over the top of the pan)—about an hour.
10. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
11. Bake bread for 40-45 minutes on a center rack (when you thump the top and it sounds hollow, the bread is done).
12. Let cool for ten minutes, and then slide it out of the pan, slice and enjoy!

Oh - Just an update on that last post of mine, cause for some reason EDIT doesn't like me.  I don't think you need to seed the peppers. I leave them in for extra spiciness.
