Anybody know if there is a metal shop around Ottawa that will create a few metal control panels? I've got a couple of cabs that need new panels and tracking down originals that do not already have a billion holes drilled is a real pain.
Just wondering if anyone has checked into this type of thing...

I looked into it here in London and the place wanted >$100! Considering most cabs aren't worth much more than that, I said "no thanks". |

If only I was into this hobby while I still had shop class. Would have made a lot of projects go by quicker.
What you could do is go to the metal shop and ask about renting some time. I know my teacher used to do this occasionally and would use the money to buy supplies for the students. You could cut the holes yourself with an acetylene torch if you have access to one. Or Drill if you have the proper bits. But to put a fold into most metals (depending on thickness) is difficult to do properly.
Unless you have custom dimensions, its usually cheaper to find an existing cp and modify it to your needs. But then half the fun is making it from scratch.
Good luck. |

Not a bad idea.... I need a few control panels as well.
Unfortunately I have no metal working skills.

If the original panels are made of Steel it would be fairly easy to fill the holes with slugs.Any metal fabrication shop with a punch press throws out slugs by the ton so they might be free if you ask. Also welding them in with a mig welder would be fairly easy for someone with welding experience.Just a thought hope this helps. |

Mike, If you aren't going to the meeting, I can bring the panels for you, if you like. PM and we'll make arrangements. Duane |
