Will Sony be able to block this with future software updates and the response was "Probably"
So you could spend $170 and either have to keep your PS3 on a lower version of the software and never go online again or Spend $170 end up with a crack that no longer works if you update.

Who are you kidding, there's absolutely no reason to go online with a PS3 ... that's what the 360 is for.

Yes and they will come out with 3 different versions One that plays 4 games, one that will play 8 games and then one that will play 12 games and in a year they will rerelease a newer version that will let you play 16 games on a bigger TV. Oh and it will not let you plug anything into it , You will only be able to buy games from Apple, and will not I repeat will not support flash .
You like a product that can be hacked/messed with and play/use for free kinda stuff. It can be fixed/patched by community not a single company.
and the other side is a product that can't be hacked/cracked/messed with it easly. Yes is working but you need to spend more $$$ to do other stuff. And you will have to wait for patches fixes from only that company, they may force you to upgrade it and maybe even pay for patches.
You got the idea.

As a reply to Sparky. MS **wanted** their product to be hacked as there was no way they would have ever caught up with the Sony and Nintendo market share if they had initially started off with a more hack-proof box. Once all these boxes were hacked and online ... and all these ***kids*** hooked on the "crack" the money started rolling in. Wonder how much the online gaming is bringing in now that they have market share.

Actually Ian, Apple *did* try to release a console but it never made it past development. It was called the Pippin. I played one back when they were still working on it.. it was poop.
If you want to get technical though, the 360 *is* a Mac.. in fact, the original dev units were Apple G5 prototypes.

Yup I find it so funny for Microsoft to take the apple background to make there system. But as for the hacks that's not really their fault. The reason it was so easy they had to use drives that are already made because if they would dev their own drive it would be not cost effective. As for sony every piece in the system was sony dev so took longer. They only recently started to hack the actual os by exploit on the board via jtag but personally i will keep paying microsoft money and buying the games because i personally love xbox live. Even tho I had my account hacked somebody used it for 3 weeks till i realized did not use it much when i was working crazy hours. I reported it my gamer score was ridiculous number they made me change my nick online and said all would be fine. Then 3 weeks ago i was deemed a cheater and my gamer score wipe to 0 and all past games i had and wanted to get achievements for i cant get but future games i will tho. But I found out that the live service is run not by MS but all MS developers once decision is made your F oh well. As for sony every piece in the system was sony dev so took longer.

The only thing a 360 has in common with a (5 year old) Mac is the use of an IBM PowerPC processor. Current macs don't use that processor. The G5 macs made good dev boxes for the 360 because it was the cheapest PowerPC computer you could get at the time.

I know.
Funny thing actually, the original 360 design had liquid-cooled heatsinks.. If they had only gone with this design, it's likely the RROD plague would never have happened! But then, the console would've cost more.. so, ya win some.. ya lose some!

Ok you and me now all we need is 98 more... Whos in? Don't crowd and push theres more then enough for all of you Then silence.... a cricket chirps in the back.
I'm always a late adopter, I'd rather wait for everyone else to test it out, brick a few systems, build up a library of down loadable titles and then I'll come in on the tail end and reap the benefits
Plus right now, there isn't really anything out that I want to play that I currently don't already own.
I was looking at it and the only thing stopping me is a Sony patch that will render this obsolete and no support. But they say this is a hardware thing and not software. So who knows I am waiting also.
I'll wait as well.. that, and I have about twenty 360 games I need to beat still, and a few PS3 titles as well (though I bought the PS3 mainly as a BR player)

I don't remeber I will check tonight. Mostly I watch TV shows I D/L and put onto my NAF drive and we sometimes play Singstar *cough* Umm... I mean my wife plays singstar .
Seriously, I haven't turned on our PS3 in months.. I think my wife played Guitar Hero on it a few months ago. Not trying to sound like a 360 fanboy, I just haven't had time for either system.. and frankly, if I'm buying a game that's out for either system I'll always choose the 360 version simply because the used prices are cheaper on that system for some reason. (I also hate.. HATE.. the Dualshock controller, but that's a personal preference)

I prefer the PS3 for the exclusive titles:
Twisted Metal God of War Uncharted Infamous Ratchet and Clank Resistance
360 doesn't really offer up any exclusives that are really must play games for me, but I understand for someone who spends most of their time gaming online, it's the better choice for a system.

PSN ID is the same as your XBox Live ID.
PS3 does have some sick exclusives, but the 360 had some great downloadable exclusives this summer including Limbo, Lara Croft (yes, it's actually really good), and Monday Night Combat.
I would've said that Mass Effect 2 is an awesome enough game to get a 360 for, but now it's apparently coming to the PS3 in 2011. I'd still recommend playing the first game on the 360 though (or the PC).

Mass Effect is about the only game that has tempted me, but not enough to go out and buy the system.
I don't online game very much, I did back in the PC days but I still don't really feel I've made the adjustment from shooters on the PC to shooters on console, I just find it unresponsive and no where near as accurate as a keyboard and mouse and that takes away quite a bit from my overall enjoyment of shooters on consoles.
Actually I'd love to play these titles, the first Resistance was really good (though a little clunky, but that's because it was rushed for the release of the PS3). The others look great as well
Right now I'm playing through Transformers: WFC .. great game.
Gears of War is a great 360 exclusive though.. and, well.. Halo.

Yea I've already played through Transformers on PS3, was pretty fun.
See that's why I choose PS3 over Xbox, the majority of exclusives are shooters and for me as a born and raised PC FPS player, paying FPS games on a console just doesn't cut it.
ChrisBardon on both the ps3 and 360. Much easier for people to find that way
Honestly, I always saw the Xbox exclusives as better than the ps3 ones, but it's really a matter of opinion I think. It's really pretty close to parity now though, with very few third party stuff coming out on just one of the two. At that point you're down to the first party exclusives, and the few 3p games that only show up on one platform. I still do the majority of my gaming on the 360, but having both means that I can play whatever I want. Mostly it's down to interface now-I think the 360 has better OS software, and being able to install a full game to the hard drive means that it loads faster and runs silently, while the ps3 fan gets a little noisy. Plus, I just like the controller more on the Xbox. There are also instances where one version of a game is markedly better than another for technical reasons (e.g. the 360 version of Bayonetta and the ps3 version of FF13).
That did get me curious though-of all the 360 games I've played, which are exclusive. Digging through the stats on Xbox.com, there are a bunch, but once you filter out downloadable games and first party games, the only ones that I could find were pretty old. The first Dead Rising never came to ps3, and I'm pretty sure that Dead Space was 360 only, but that's about it. There were also games like Oblivion, Bioshock, and Mass Effect 2 that came out on 360 first, and then got ported later. Then there's a shitload of first party games on both 360 and ps3 that aren't going to make the jump.
It really is just a matter of opinion. Like I said the majority of exclusives to the Xbox and your samey FPS game. I've personally grown tired of the current FPS scene. I miss health bars and I'm tired of realism. That's why I liked Resistance, health bars, interesting weapons and a decent story line, Resistance 2 took a step backward as far as I'm concerned losing the health bars in favor of sitting in a corner and sucking you thumb till your health comes back.
At least there is a level of originality in games like Ratchet and Clank and God of War.
In this day an age, the downloadable games are becoming a much bigger deal. IMO, the best ones have been for the 360 including Shadow Complex, Braid, Pop Cap Games, Trials HD, Splosion Man, and Limbo. I'd argue it's worth buying a system just to play the 360 DLC exclusives.

Never really been much of a twisted metal fan, or a car game fan to be honest. I liked the old Burnout games, but once Paradise ditched Crash Mode and did just the point to point races, I was out. I see what you mean about the health packs though, but didn't Resistance end up with regenerating health after the first couple of levels? I can't remember-I played it a couple of years ago. I'll go back to an FPS every so often, but I'm definitely getting tired of some of the sameness. I'll probably check out Halo Reach this fall (since I skipped ODST) just because those games are unbelievably polished, and I've still got a copy of Borderlands sitting at home that I haven't touched. Gears 3 I'll probably skip though-I got really bored with Gears of War 2 near the end.
Agreed on the downloadable games though-there are a lot that are going cross platform there as well, but there are definitely exclusives on both sides. Shadow Complex was seriously one of the best games of last year, downloadable or not. There hasn't been as many really standout XBLA games this year, but there's still some great stuff out there.

Wow, that was one of the most shallow articles on the topic I've ever read, it reads like a high school student wrote it. And why write an article like that 4 years after these consoles have been on the market?
A friend of a friend of mine worked on Assassin's Creed. Originally it was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive, but they had a lot of trouble getting it to perform well. So just before E3 they ported it to the 360 (took only a few days) and it performed beautifully, so they demoed on the 360s instead. No more was it a PS3 exclusive. Apparently that's a common story in game development. The PS3 may be theoretically more powerful, but a game has to be tailor made to use the crazy cell processor to take advantage. The 360 is relatively easy to get full performance out of, hence why most dual platform games run better on the 360 (FFXIII excluded, but it sucks anyways).

interesting read, thanks for that Adam. I've never really argued the PS3's superior hardware, it's their execution, shoddy controller and overall presentation that I find lacking.
Sure, I pay for my online gaming.. but their online experience is sooooo much better, IMO.
Still, they both have their pros and cons. I'd probably play the PS3 a lot more if I didn't hate their controller so much (and if their used prices were on par with 360 games).

I personally really like the PS3 controller layout, the Xbox 360 one seems so big and bulky, PS3 one fits nicely in my hands, plus I've been playing playstation from the beginning so anything else just kinda feels odd.
End of the day I'm not a fan boy, PS3 does what I want and I like it, but I get why other people like Xbox360, it's just not the console for me.
But yes 100% the Wii sucks!
I'm not even sure I'm going to bother with Move, I mean I bought a Wii when it came out, played it for a week, and then never played it again. I figure the same thing will happen if I buy Move.
They are both as cheap as dirt for what you get in the box. Just buy both and you can use the PS3 for a massive paperweight whilst you play the console that has all the desired titles written for it.
At this juncture who gives a crap about hardware specs. Buy the system that supports the games you want to play. Both are equally capable of providing satisfactory entertainment.
I can't really argue with the consoles.. with the lack of exclusives these days, it's really down to personal preference and I can respect whatever choice you may have

That's not the first time I've heard that scenario-I get the impression that the ps3 dev tools are pretty craptacular. I've never played with a 360 dev kit, but I have toyed around with XNA, and in general Microsoft dev tools are top notch. Really, the contrast is that Sony is a hardware company, and Microsoft is a software company. Sony has some very cutting edge and innovative hardware, and Microsoft came up with a better operating system, network infrastructure, and tools. Simple example-a firmware upgrade on the Xbox downloads an incremental patch, and completes in less than a minute. A firmware upgrade on the ps3 downloads the entire OS every time, and takes probably 10 times longer. Patching a game is the probably the same difference. The last ps3 game I played (Heavy Rain), took an OS patch, a game patch, and a game install, which meant maybe half an hour (or longer) to get to playing the game from putting the disc in. It's a small thing, but I think it's indicative of the whole experience.
That being said though, I do find that the ps3 is a better media box for local stuff, and I like using it for downloaded video. Streaming tends to work better to the 360 though-the ps3 just drops connection to the media server much more often.
I was at Hippochrome's last night. I downloaded the demo for the Scott Pilgrim game (see my avatar) on his PS3. I was shocked that after the demo was downloaded it needed to be installed! WTF? On the 360, the second a game is finished downloading you can play it. Must be excruciating if you download a 4 GB game!
