Just a heads up to pin 2000 owners. There is a guy on Ebay selling the Cyrix GX 233mhz central processing units for $14.99
He also has 200's and 266's as well. Apparently Williams used all 3. I used to have a computer company back in the days when these cpu's came out and built systems using them. They were cheaper than the intel and AMD cpu's and we were told they provided more performance. I had some issues with the earlier cyrix chips but these were ok and they kept the cost of my boxes down to allow for more profit. I used to clock the chips up for customers if they wanted by changing the bus speed jumpers but I always used very good ball bearing coolers to properly dissipate the heat. Of coarse this would void the warranty, but how would they know the difference from a fan burning out and overheating the chip. There was actually a claim that one of my suppliers was re-stamping the processors at a higher speed and selling them for more. I know this was true because I purchased one from them that had both stampings on the chip and returned it to my sales rep. They were glad to refund me on it and take it back.
I would recommend purchasing the 266mhz chips and clocking them down to run cooler as opposed buying the lower freq chips and clocking them up. Back in the day there was such a difference in cost between the chips it made sense but now that they are obsolete and cheap the decision is easy. This seller on Ebay sells the 266mhz ones for $15.99, a dollar well spent. Also the old pc100 and pc133 ram chips are dirt cheap on the internet as well so you might as well max the ram out too. I believe the pin2000 boards come with 64mb. My m/b has a single 64mb chip on it but has 2 slots. I am going to put 2 128mb sticks in there and see if the cmos will accept it. A lot of the boards back then would take up to 256MB. Make sure if you are purchasing used ram not to mix the ones with the gold contacts with ones with the silver contacts as they would not work together and the banks had to be paired evenly.( 2 X 32 mb, 2 X 64 mb, 2 X 128 mb)

Now that you have both Pin2K machines, I'm sure a  'hardcore' pinhead will try to take one off your hands.

I hadn't played a P2K since it first came out until recently at slingshot's place.  It was fun and neat but the smaller pf didn't feel right somehow.  It's definitely cool though.

Yep, it would definitely be a hit with the kids.  If it wasn't for the fact that I found it a little boring, I would consider one too.  But kids like Spiderman too.   You ever get one of those?  You were dying for one back then.

I agree the price seems right,
but honestly, how often does a CPU chip go bad... ?

I've personally owned (or worked with) over 40 PC's in the last 20 years
and I've had just about everything fail EXCEPT a CPU.

So before I rush out to get yet "another" spare part,
how useful would this be...  ?

Thanks,
Steph

How about one of these? Are these now out on the street in reproduction or is this NOS?

I have yet to hear anything about the A/V Asic  being successfully repro'd yet, so I'd say that is a NOS part.  (and given the seller, I don't doubt it)  Wanus claims he's making the A/V Asic, but then again... he's also claiming that MM's are still coming, so take that as you may.

Price isn't astronomical, and who knows when you might need one.

If these are the same things (I think they are) been available for awhile. Saw them somewhere else also but Pam and Martin are great to deal with.

Yeah that's the same. The CPU ASIC has been around for some time, but this is the first that I have witnessed the A/V ASIC surface.

Great price too for them too I might add. Thanks for the link. This chip is really a critical part in keeping WPC 95 running in future if yours fails.

Love this statement:

"Do not open the box until you need the part. You can admire it through the lid"

Yes some collect Royal Dalton to look at. I will just put my spare ASIC in the curio cabinet for me to admire.
