Diamond plate is the name that Williams/Bally gave to the clearcoating process they were doing to playfields.  It's basically an automotive clearcoat similar to the ones being done by auto body shops.  Some places in the US will clearcoat playfields but it;s expensive.

I thought Diamond Plate was that bucket of DIAMONDs that you get to finance new pinball purchases when you break the PLATE glass above a playfield?? Not.
