Im in the middle of working on a Bally Playboy and something is puzzling me about the way its scoring. It was hard to explain so I made a video....
I have manually tested all switch's and coils and everything is good. It appears that the game needs to count by 100s. So if I hit a 500pt target, it will count up to 500, by 100 (ie. 100, 200, 300, 400, 500). And it will make a sound for each increment. After a lot of hits, it takes a while for the score to catch up and it the sound is non-stop. You can see it a bit in the video after the 2nd ball.
Anyone every encountered this? Is this normal? Its very odd.
This was one way to show 'achievement' to a player.
Also perhaps as another way to transition from EMs with steppers/chimes stepping 'one' at a time, to these early solid state games...
Cheers, - Sylvain.
Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!
I had a bad capacitor on one of the switches under the star trek pf causing funny scoring ,mostly during the bonus score but sounds like a similar issue.the score and sound lasted longer than needed....
14 pins Ahhhhh!,2 jukes, mame, table arcade,vendo39,gun game and ROBOTRON ---NO VACANCY!!!--- the Inn is full!
the small .05uF in parallel with the switch contacts I remember hitting one target that caused it to go crazy with point and sound.it was intermittent and very annoying but VERY similar to yours. try again one switch at a time several times .....and like you say the other machine doesn't do the same thing as yours. I played my star trek yesterday and didn't do that funny thing yours does.

You can change the sounds setting with the dip switch to get those different noises !!
Sorry you can change sounds setting by the switch in the coin door, not the dip switch. Yes the sound look strange, the pitch look faster. And maybe you have a very sensitive switch that register 2-3 times when the ball hit it, that's why the machine continue to count points for a long time.

Wish I had seen this thread earlier, oh well...you got lots of help anyway. Regarding the sound, are you running a -35 board or do you have an Alltek in it ? When The bonus countdown tune is very complex and when I put an Alltek in my Playboy, it never played it correctly. Put the -35 back in, and it played normally. If the notes are played out of order, then it will sound offkey for sure.

All original hardware. I need Sparky to drop by and hum out the correct bars while I manually tune it.
