Yes a little bit but on diamondplate, it's ok .. try it in a hidden area .. you'll see. ( well, actually you won't   )

you also might want to give the magic eraser a try with alcool ...

here's the thing: the ball track is actual wear in the coating and when you sand it, you smooth it out and this eliminates friction  (and dirt for now) which will reduce future tracking.

don't want to sand again ? KEEP IT CLEAN!

Use the eraser first .. if that does not work then upgrade to the sandpaper.
Be conscious of how aggressive you are as they are both abrasive.  But as MrHide says its diamond plate so you should be okay, although there are cases wear the ball has worn down the DP so that if you use an abrasive you have a higher chance of affecting the art.  But there is limited risk with ME or 2000 Grit

You will have an easier time finding the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser vs. 2000 grit

I don't know what 3M uses for an abrasive. But this stuff cuts through crap quick and leaves a really nice finish.

I've been using it on the smoked cabinet of my Centipede. Nothing else was working. Will try it on an old PF I have next. I have used this stuff for what it was designed for, to remove oxidization from fiberglass but it appears to be the ticket for compounding. The abrasive is nothing like what you see in normal compounds. Very fine yet cuts. Probably should limit use to Gilligan and Popeye machines.

Let us know how that works for you. There is a marine store close by and I can check for the Ottawa folks to see if they stock it. Always interested in a new and better way to clean up the pins

Cheers!
Duane
