Ok Sunday I was putting a LED kit (yes I said LED and I don't have an issue with it) in my JD with my oldest son Zack helping me.  3.5 Hrs later waxed and cleaned and the dredded Dot appears.  On this machine it would come and go (trough 1 opto error) machine work 100% with it but I had to tear it apart and fix it. This meant removing apron, trough, and new optos on board, fix some brittle wires. This took another 2 hrs

Zack started to pipe in about he hates these old machines because they are always breaking down and I have to fix it asap. Seems when I fix one part, you might brush against something else breaking a wire blow a fuse etc...and you have to fix that.  This is his fav machine and he still complains on fixing it (Kids now a days)

I guess my point is does anyone think your crazy because you have to fix it even if dinner is waiting or it's 11 PM with work tomorrow?

Lance

Isn't that normal? I am always saying "I don't have to get up until 3:45, and it is only Midnight, I can fix this!!"

My wife just figures it is normal now.

No because I don't do that, the problem isn't going anywhere and it's not like I'm going to be playing the game at 11pm at night anyway so it can wait.

On the bright side, you never end up with a basement full of busted machines.

Everything works fast in the society today. Take time to learn how to fix something, take long time to investigate, take long time to repair and restore, it is not for everyone.

I gather that your son is a teenager or young boy. He has yet to learn some golden rules in life:

1- mess BREAKS

2- fixing the broken mess teaches you a work ethic

3- chances are your son is more high maintenance than your pins, but YOU don't complain, why should he?

I hear Ya....  I usually start a shop job, in the morning and by the evening it's all done.....  10-12 hours straight. (full shop, every nook and cranny).  If I find repairs are needed, either I do them right away, or call on a couple of tech friends to assist... but it's ASAP for me.  I HATE not having every machine running 100% - It REALLY bugs me!!!

Luckily, my basement is full of machines I love... so I see fewer and fewer total shop jobs ahead of me - except the odd repair and periodic cleaning.

So Ya, I totally hear ya!  You're not 'CRAZY' just a little nuts!

I try to get every job completed same day since I do not have a shop space and everything is in the open in the game room.

In a few years I will have a room freed up in the basement at which time I hope to get a rotisserie and work bench and take on bigger tasks.

I have stuff spread out everywhere...two sheds and a tent, and most of a basement....  I used to have a pin in my office an done in the living room.  Most now reside at friend's houses until i can finish off the basement or build a shop (both of which seem like pie in the sky).  I don't have time to complete anything, but that's because I take on everything and change interests hourly....

... I am a certified MAACA-Wacko...and my hubby reminds me of it every day.....
