the game itself is ok, I had one for a while and sold it. Don't think I'd ever want to own it again.
It's a novelty game, very unique in gameplay but also very limited. Everything centers around making baskets, there really isn't anything else to do in the game. Yes there are other modes/shots but they are all ceneterd around making baskets. So while fun to play once in a while, making it for the long haul in any collection is going to be tough. If you are a big basketball fan then you might just enjoy the game from theme alone. While dated the voice calls are very good, with player specific voice calls for each specific NBA team, and you can choose any team you want from whatever year the game was created.
The scoring is very low yes, I think my higher games were usually around 300 or more. The wizard mode is similar to that as WCS but with Basketball, during the wizard mode you need to score more baskets then an invisible computer. Once completed, start over again.
The one for sale right now in classifieds is a pretty decent deal, if all the ramps are in tact. The main concern would be the left ramp that creates the basket as that is broken pretty much on 99.9% of games. I was lucky and was able to find a replacement, but that was lucky.
If it were me and I hadn't already owned the game, for $900 I pick the machine up just for the novelty. Play it for a while, clean and fix it up and then sell it. |
