I got this one a little while back and it is about time I got started. SquidVicious bought this one from Makak recently and I had it delivered to my place for a complete overhaul. Cab, playfield and backglass. I have been looking forward to start this one.

I must admit, I love this pin! I got it started for my birthday party and played it a bit... quite fun!!! I did take the opportunity to fix a few things, like the thermometer. works great now!

Ok ok... back to the playfield. well, I just started on it, but BOY, IS IT EVER DRY!!! Here are pics of it during dissassembly. I got it cleaned now and I even retouched all the blue already. I brought it back to a nice bright blue... no longer a dried out greenish blue.

More pics to come...

And now, I start the cabinet!!!

I striped it doen along with EK and CF. As you can see in the following pics, it is EXTREMELY faded. So basically I drew up stencils, cut them, and proceeded to strip the cab.

On a side note, working on this cab makes me wonder why GTB gets such a bad rap sometimes. I can honestly tell you that this pin is built like a tank. Wood all around (no MDF panel at the rear like WMS and Bally), tough paint (it took me 2 shots to get it all off), easy hardware... hmm...

Anyhow, I should have this one done fairly quickly. Just a little putty to put on, a good sanding and it is ready for paint.

Their EM's never get a bad rap.  Now, their solid state machines are a different story....

Dan is a very lucky boy....

... but this may mean I may also get back my once beloved though "well loved" C37 (the other one) - I miss it!  Good Gotliebs get a lot of love.  I am still waiting for Shaq Attaq to return to me once again as well!  !

... I could do it also.

And tonight's update: cab has been sanded clean and Bondoed. So basically if all goes well, tomorrow, I will do a final sand and then prime it. I also did the same with the CF and EK I am doing simultaneously.

I finished the second basecoat on the cab. I will let it dry 24 hours, and then I will do the black spatter. Oddly enough, the spatter was UNDER the color coats... never seen that. Usually they put the spatter on last.

My 2001 is the same way. Black splatter on top of white base coat but under the red & blue colour coats.

So I focused on the C37 cab today, and I will finish it before working on another. I expect 3-4 days tops. Last night, I did all the spotting over it. That went very well.

Tonight was putting on some yellow on the left side and front of the cab and backbox. That went well as well. I also recreated something on top of the backbox that often gets forgotten on cab repaints...

Enjoy...

Belay that order, I was thinking about "borrowing" the stencils, but I can also make my own, there was enough pattern left on the other one .... IF I acquire it again....IF (I need another EM like I need the proverbial hole in my head).

Project nearing completion... cab is now finished. I just have a couple of touch-ups to do on it, and then done. The playfield is mostly done, just working out small details before clearing.

Cabs when new were painted for the most part white, not antique white. But I usually go with the wishes of the owner. In this case, Dan said make it nice and clean. Ultra-white it is...

Oh man... no kidding. Especially this one... it was faded bad. But oddly enough, I find the GTB cabs the best built... their Achilles' heel was their paint fading.

I am trying to understand the theme here, so what is with the art depicting cooking up women in an oversized test tube? Is this the very last Gottlieb EM?

I guess not or different ones. Why is this a comic book theme? Centgrade 37 is obviously body temperature, but beyond that I don't get the connection.

This was the stuff I used to read... probably why I should seek therapy.

Edit. Look what I found recently released.

The playfield won't be 100% (it was REALLY dry) and the backglass is now a 7 (was a 5), so I hope you will still be happy with it.

Phew... done as well. It came out very decent. This playfield was VERY uncooperative as it was much drier than anticipated. Having cleaned and put on a coat of clearcoat BEFORE touching up this one would have helped a lot. Lesson learned.

So after 28 hours on the playfield, here are some pics. Like I said, far from perfect (I am bummed out on a few spots which were impossible), but overall nice.
