I don't know who you guys are dealing with, but I have a plan that costs me $30 a month with MY5 (5 numbers anywhere in Canada I can call anytime, for as long as I want for free), 500 daytime/1000 evening+weekend minutes, unlimited text and video/voice messaging.
I used to hate cell phones, and I still don't like talking on the phone, but for only $30 a month it's nice to be able to talk to my wife any time I want from anywhere, at no cost. |

Sure, but after tax, system access fee, extras like voice mail, 911 fee, etc. etc. Does it still come out to $30 a month? |

Hmmm, kid's these days. I don't have an issue being a 1000 miles from anybody with no communication in the middle of the Arctic. If I don't show up eventually someone will come looking for me.
I agree with Adam. Without a cell phone, what do you do should you car break down? It does happen. Duane |

Go to the U.S. and call only a few times and you'll see that bill go up like a jet. |

There are ways around getting hammered with outrageous cellphone costs when traveling outside of Canada. Being the admin for all the mobile devices at my work, I've learned a lot of little things about keeping costs in-line. If you know you'll be traveling outside of the country, just call your carrier up and have them add a "North American" type plan to your phone for the duration of the trip. It will all be pro-rated based on the days you'll be gone, so the costs are VERY reasonable, not to mention you save BIG $$ on roaming charges and you'll net xxx amount of minutes of "free" talk time. Even if you go over the included minutes for that plan, the additional minute costs are still more than reasonable. Just as an example, when a bunch of us went to Expo last October I had my phone on the North American plan the whole time. (5 days) I called home and work quite a bit, not to mention calls to the rest of the people I was attending Expo with, then pile on all of the email I would normally get day to day, and I think the whole thing cost me $50-60? Ask Cooke what his cell bill was (he doesn't have email) for the same duration! As much as I hate my blackberry at times, I would never travel without some sort of means of communication. (and there are ways to keep the costs reasonable) Oh, and to keep things kinda on track... MMMMMoOOOOOOOOOOO! D |

Yes it does and I bet most people don't even have a flare or winter clothes in their car if it did. What ever happened to being a little prepared so you don't need to constantly ask of the world to bail you out? |

I've had winter clothes in my car for the past 20 years now, I've never had to use them, but they will stay there anyway, you never know. |

It's not the world, it's CAA and I pay for it. Damn straight I'm calling them if I have a problem. BTW, I actually wear winter clothes. What happened to people actually dressing for the weather. Duane |
