Oh, BTW, what do you do when your little 7 yr old legs can't reach the pedals... ?

You use a can of all-purpose house paint of course  !

I LOVE Daytona 1 and 2.

What are you doing with the single unit once fixed? can it be linked into the 2 others for a 3 player unit?

Although you can't really tell by pics, the single cab is pretty much trashed...

The monitor is missing, the boards are non-working, the seat base is missing,
the pedals are seized, the cab has water damage near the bottom and REEKS of mouse feces...
(... I found a mouse nest with dead babies... lovely... )

I'm parting it out to in the hopes of salvaging parts for my twin.

I'll have to disinfect the board sets and mechanical parts,
(...yes, the metal parts stink of mouse piss too ! )
and the cab is going out to the curb tonight.

Apparently, yes, you can link a single with a twin to have 3 linked games.

The optical link ports are present on the single's PCB boardset,
and it's just a matter of daisy-chaining them together with the twin.

If I can [miraculously] fix the boards, and I feel incredibly brave,
I "may" (...one day) try to re-build a new cab to match the twins and make a triple
(...the cabinet for the single was very very different than the twin... )

It would be cool to see my 3 boys racing together... !

...but that's a long, long way off !

Obviously you guys arent' Dr Phil.

The answer is right in front of your face here....He can't fit the twin Daytona down his basement.

I am sure after therapy and possibly chainsaw treatment he will be cured.

Steph, if you are throwing out that marquee light (and housing), I would LOVE it as the one on my MK2 cab has been removed due to blowing a bulb every time I put a new one in.

LMK my friend.

It depends...  (...of course...)

As a guideline, I would think a working pair should go for $1300-1500 CDN.

If you get them for under $1000 you got a good deal.

I was lucky to get mine for less than $1000, but it had a few issues
(broken shifter, problem with the force feedback steering, and it would not link )

Still,  I know the only reason I got it,  was because few people had the means to transport them
and/or fit them in their house, so few people were able to buy it.

Now that I've been bitten, I'd like to test out and compare
the various driving games (from the mid-90's )

Between my Cruis'n and the Daytona, I much prefer the Daytona
because it's much more realistic to drive .

The graphics and dynamics of the Daytona are much better.
( Daytona had drift-steering 15 years before the movie "Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift" made it popular )

Cruis'n USA is fun (...especially when you hit a dear...)
but it feels alot more like an "arcade" game rather than a driving simulator.

That said, I'd love to try Cruis'n Exotica because the tracks are wild
(Dinosaures, Mars, Atlantis, etc.. ) and the graphics are much better.
(...anybody got an Exotica ?  I have a boardset, but I bought it non-working... )

I'd also like to try SF Rush to see how that feels.

Steph

Don't forget California Speed (the ones i just bought) like Cruis'n Series, but some fun tracks (Driving through a mall / Driving on a Rollercoaster / Driving through a giant circuit board)

It's a lot of fun.

I like the older ones better because they are cartoonish, and fun, not so ultra-realistic, like some of the new ones that i can never see whats going on, nor can i control the car.

Dream gameroom would have

2 x Cruis'n USA
2 x California Speed
2 x Daytona
2 x San Fran Rush
2 x Daytona 2

That would be fun!

At one point after spending some quality time on 2 person Crusin' USA, my son and I had our living room decked out with a PS2 and a couple of those radio shack force feedback steering wheel sets and were having a blast.  We were trying to re-create that arcade feeling.  Then there was a period of no use, so off to eBay they went.  Of course, ever since, my son says "I wish we'd kept the PS2 for the driving games".....

Hey Steph,  I have a couple of SF Rush The Rocks if you would like to try it and I might have two more coming in. In my opinion it is the most realistic driver from the 90's + all the hidden short cuts make it a pile of fun too.
