So... I've only ever had one Data East Pinball. Last Action Hero...
Liked it for about 2 days...And I was ready to move on...Fast forward to today and I would love a SW machine simply because I'm a fan.

I haven't played the DE SW...but from all the footage I've seen, it looks like a great playfield with good DMD and so, so sound.

I've been spoiled with STTNG and IJ with great game play...Do you guys think SW has "long" legs

Let me know... Curious what you all think... Good or bad.
Cheers,
PJ

DE SW is not a great game at all, very boring.

It has some cool toys in the death star and R2D2 and a decent variety of modes from the left scoop.  But I can some the game up in one shot:

All ramp all day.

The most lucrative shot to make on the machine is the ramp in the center, which feeds the right flipper problem is you can just sit there and loop that ramp ALL DAY, and from a points perspective that is really the only thing worth doing.  So the game ends up boiling down to shooting the ramp, over and over and over and over and you get my point

So unless you are a huge fan and are looking to get it for theme alone I'd say stay away, the game doesn't even hold a candle to the other titles you mentioned.

Also,  most DE machines pretty much have the same identical modes..  The pop bumper mode, the spinner mode, the drop target mode, the standup target mode, the ramp mode, the loop mode, etc..  There typically isn't an actual sequence of things to do..  just hit the same thing over and over again during a mode...  So although the shots/layout are different you're basically doing the same things on most DE DMD machines..

Since you live in Cambridge, drop into the Beaver and Bulldog
on Hespeler Road, last time I was there they had a DE SW.

It was pretty clean and played decent when I was there.
