I've been looking at the Spiderman pinball for a while and like the theme and layout. It seems like a good fast pinball that would compliment well my LOTR. Just wondering if anyone has bought it and in the context of a home collection, do you find that it has staying power? My 40th Bday is coming up and heck, just might convince the wife that an additional pinball is enough to qualm any mid-life crisis
Thanks for any comments but would also like to hear from people who bought it and are over the 3-6 month honeymoon with this pinball,
Stephane

Medvet will chime in on this one. She got one a few weeks ago and loves it.
I have had an opportunity to play it quite a bit, and I'll share my experience. My first impression was "Ok. Fun game. Not great, but fun"; however the more I played it the more I liked it. It kind of grows on you.
Medvet made some adjustments to make it more fun as well. Out of the box, the settings are too easy. To start MB, you simply have to hit a target to light lock, lock the ball and repeat 2 times. This starts Blacksuit MB I think. Anyhow, it was waayyyyy too easy to keep re-starting Blacksuit MB, so Medvet increased the difficulty for this setting. This really changes the game and makes it much more challenging.
I really like the game, it's awesome. If you are seriously considering getting one, I'd suggest the Black edition. It includes a real glass backglass, shaker motor, and chrome detailing (side rails, lock down bar, and around the head I think).
Spiderman is an odd game, it's interesting but it's all pretty the same. You have the 4 villians that you beat over and over agian to accomplish stuff, and then there are a few modes, but it's weird the way you are required to start modes, you have to collect all the lit shots on the playfield to start the mode, then collect the lit shots to complete the modes. I like the feel of the game, the shots flow well, everything stacks and it's fun to play, but I never felt like I was acomplishing anything. sure you are beating villians and starting multiballs and finishing modes, but because there is no break and no real que when you complete something it just kinda feels like you are banging the machine around and completing things as you go along, it doesn't feel like there is a purpose.
This isn't to say I don't like the game, I just don't see one ending up in my game room, I enjoy it when I play it at other peoples homes but don't feel the urge to own one myself
Would you rate it up there with LOTR and TSPP Duane ?
Not yet. The software isn't quite finished. TSPP wasn't finished for quite some time so let's not start that debate
I would compare it favourably to AFM. Very similar feel, but different at the same time. Unlike AFM, it has modes as well as MB modes. I think it is a great game and definately a great looking package.
To compare it to TSPP isn't exactly fair as TSPP is astop and go type game while Spiderman is totally flow.
Comparing to LOTR is a better comparision. Both are very flow oriented. LOTR is much better on every aspect. Rules are better. Music is better. It's easier to understand. DMD animations are better. Both are strong on artwork. I like both backglasses and cabinets, for example.
Now that's my opinion. Medvet, when she chimes in, will say Spiderman is better. Afterall it's her LOTR that I bought She couldn't get into the theme of LOTR and just didn't really like the game. She has played it a few times at my place and still doesn't care for it.
I guess the thread has been high jacked with this response.
To get back to the original question, Spiderman is an excellent game. I don't think you will be disappointed assuming you like FAST, flowing games.

Well said Adam!!!! I totally agree with your assessment. My only complaint is there is no break in the action and it doesn't do a good job of introducing modes. Basically the ball is fired back into action and you keep going. This means you never really know what is going on -- unless you really know the game, so it does fell like you aren't really accomplishing anything.
I would expect this to be corrected with the next code update which is supposedly going to come out sometime....
Still, I think it is a fun game and one of Sterns best. Up there with LOTR, TSPP, and FG/Shrek. Minor software update and it will be awesome.
My opinion is that the only pins that have staying power are the ones that have a somewhat sentimental value, or a highly-rising value, and even then...
Am I the only one who does not like the new pixelated DMD animation? That was one thing that I really did not like in either Spiderman or Indiana Jones.

No you arent, IJ4 is HORRIBLE. Its bad to the point where you have no clue what you are looking at.
Really, movie scenes arent made for such a small resolution screen...
EDIT: especially in the mode the one i played was set where 1/4 of the screen was reserved for the score... very lame.

Nope, you aren't. I HATE them. That said, I can enjoy a game with them. I just don't bother looking at the DMD when someone is playing. I really hope Stern does away this approach. I haven't met anyone that likes it.
