Ok, I need to know the best place to make a bulk order for standard electronics parts. I need some resistors, transistors, capacitors etc.... standard stuff.
Where is the best place for a Canadian to order from? People talk about digikey. Anywhere else?
Well, he isn't Canadian, but I order alot from Ed at Great Plains Electronics. Check out his feedback on RGP... he is an awesome guy to deal with. He is based in Nebraska.
There is not much local available in Ottawa anymore. Not sure about Toronto or Montreal. Add, Active, Gervais have some parts, but not most of the pinball semiconductors we often need.
I have ordered from Ed at GreatPlains a few times, and always very happy. Ed was always very upfront and honest. I feel his prices are very fair. Has lots of semi conductors for pinballs, many somewhat difficult to find, as well as a few neat kits for MPU corrosion damage repair...
Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!
For really hard to find stuff Jameco is a little more money but they always have what I`m looking for example 6532,6800,6821 and every single 7400 series chip I`ve ever wanted and get here locally etc.....For the usual caps, resisters etc.I go to a local place called Sayal, its a discount electronic store usually good selection and you can`t beat the price. Pinball kits I order from great plains electronics.Ed just does an awsome job and prices are reasonable I highly recommended him. For video stuff BOB Roberts is tops in my book, he has a very good selection of parts and kits and they are again pretty reasonbly priced and to top it all off his shipping is very fast and cheap A++. Hope this saves some people some time in searching although I think almost everyone on this site is aware these first class vendors. CHEERS STEEL OUT!!

I've been building hi end audio gear for a while, as well as working alot on this HH restoration and I cannot recommend Digikey enough. I too shop at Sayal when I only need a chip or so, but for high quality and massive selection, Digikey tops everyone else. Their online ordering system is above reproach, they send out a new free catalogue printed in CAD every 120 days, they ship back ordered parts at no extra fee, and if you order 32.50 CAD worth of stuff or more, you only pay 8 bucks shipping, no handling. They are fabulous on the phone if you need to clarify something. And the best part...order by 9pm CENTRAL time and the order will be at your door the next day. The downside of Digikey is that they don't have much stock on the "nearly obsolete" stuff found in the '80s era pins, so you simply cannot get everything you need from them. On the surface, Mouser looks about the same, but they are a pale second, and they use UPS to ship to canada, and UPS kills you with brokerage fees. I've only dealt with ED once, but I also have a very good impression of him.
Sayal yes. Believe it or not I have found oddball components on Ebay. Shipping sometimes is more then the component if you want it quick. But it's all pretty cheap from what I have experienced. Just punch in the part # and search. If you know alternate manufacturers cross reference numbers it will help.
Sayal is my first choice... I usually just go the store in Scarborough. Or I hit Active Surplus and Supreme Electronics on Queen St. But sometimes none of them have the parts I need.
