Just caught the "Local" weather update on TV, and the weather "chick" was positively giddy in announcing 50cm of snow for Ottawa & Montreal on Saturday (only 20cm in T.O. )
Their website (www.Weathernetwork.com) only indicates 15-20cm, but apparently they've "just" launched a "storm warning" for Saturday.
I don't quite believe it (...or I'm in denial ), but according to our giddy host, we should brace ourselves for a doooozie !
All traffic will be at a stand-still, and all flights for march-break vacationers will be cancelled.

I have to remember to place the flow trap in before then. Because my road plumbing is really bad they where gona fix it in november but froze to fast. Now I hope snowblower survives 2 more rounds.

Darn, I wish we would get some snow. No snow and crap ice make for a very long boring winter.
The weather has been crazy here this year, +3 and rain then -40 the next day. Back and forth all January, February. I haven't had a chance to use my new skis yet and I didn't even bother finishing my ice surfer. Hoping this summer will be better but I doubt it, freaky weather seems to be the norm now.

No problem... bring it on. I got me a toy for this weekend for removing the snow off of my driveway and lot... Having a 267B tracked skidsteer with a 7-foot-wide bucket and a 78-inch wide snowblower attached to it that can chuck the snow 45 feet high.
Bring it on Mother Nature, you cold-hearted b****!!!!! I'm ready for your a**!!!!

Our neighbour operates a backhoe so we're pretty much covered every year until he retires. But I must say, other than having friends with snow blowers, the next best thing for suburbanites is a snow sled, these things work great and no back breaking.
I'm boned! I thought the snowfall on Tuesday was too much for me. Who needs a membership at a fitness club when you get 50cm of snow every week?

The only thing I hope is my snow blower last another round. Motor is good but replaced belts 2 times already this year and broke a dam bolt that holds the handle bar so i have to fix it before use tomorrow.

Come on guys. Enjoy the snow. I just came in from outside - 2 hours playing in the drifting snow with my six year old son. We had a blast!!! Then we went and had a few games of pinball (TZ) before he went to bed.
Kick back and play some pinball in the basement and you won't even know it is snowing outside - until Monday morning.
We need to enjoy it before it gets 32C with that 80% humidity!

In Embrun, I think we're already at over 35cm since yesterday. I think the storm is hitting south of Ottawa and the eastern townships a little harder than Ottawa itself. For example, there has been no sun since this started around noon today.

Is it me or is your weather diffrent then mine and where not that far appart. I woke up to sun then 12 it hit did not stop till 3 then started again at 4 and has not stop. The weird part tho is the lighning and thunder while it is snowing it really odd i first thought it was a transformer. But sounded to natural to be.
We got about 10 cm last night, then sun from 8:00am-noon.
Another "quick" 5cm from noon-12:30, then sun again.
Another wild flurry from 4:00-5:00pm, then clear until now...
We're probably getting close to 20cm since yesterday...

I'm sure at least 50cm fell out here. However it's a bit difficult to tell because of the CRAZY drifting. My truck is completely buried, there are drifts over 6 feet tall! Went outside with good intentions to shovel around the house, but the wind was still howling so not much point.
Instead I strapped on the showshoes and took off into the wilderness. The trip out was much more difficult than the trip back, breaking trail vs. walking in my own tracks. I came upon a deer who had found a nice sunny spot to rest, unfortunately gave him a scare and he fled. I won't say ran away, because it was more like swimming in mud. Poor thing sank in up to his neck with each hop.
Playable Now: Centaur II, Doctor Who, High Speed. Playable Soon: Breakshot, Sorcerer Later: Flash, Genie, Seawitch Fondly remembered: Firepower
Just to piss everyone off - I cut the lawn yesterday. Plus 15 in Vancouver.

MWWWWAAAAHHHAAAAHHHAAAHHHAAAA!!!!! SCREW YOU MOTHER NATURE!!! HERE'S A CATERPILLAR RIGHT UP YOUR CORNHOLIO!!!!
Snow? ... what snow? ...In 2 hours, I did my driveway, cleared a path through an 8-foot snowbank in the middle of my lawn to dump the snow, and did 3 neighbors' driveways.
More... last one is a view of my front lawn from my office... that "channel" is 50 feet long and I filled most of it with the snow from the driveway... imagine by hand. Ouch.
Now that was a really happy kid I had... he had a blast taking a little ride!

these pics reminds me of late 70's.. i forget which player of the buffalo sabres it was but one of them hijacked the big sideways blade things and drove it himself to clear a path from the hotel to the airport for the team bus [so the team wouldn't miss a playoff game] for unknown reasons, buffalo is still unexpected snow capital of NA. they tend to get hit much harder & often. Yet they still don't have organized snow removal like we do in montreal.
Yes but does that caterpiller have flipper buttons? ... or a track ball. i.e. Did Sparky Design the control pad (like the one on Loafers cab)?
Enjoy guys, now that all the shovelling is done, I am off to sunny Florida tomorrow. I will just end up building sand casteles with my son! Snow, sand, what is the difference? - FUN either way!

Highways are good. Only country roads exposed to blowing snow are a bit of a problem. Nothing major. As for the airport, I doubt they are still having problems by now.
It was crazy here. Last night I had to bring my youngest daughters' boyfriend home at midnight. In my little Kia Spectra5 SX...
I'll give you the short version. The plows had not passed all day, everywhere in the Eastern townships, the plow guys were told to stay home and just start Sunday morning. At one point, I had to turn a 35 degree "fork" corner. With the snow, I had little traction and the only way to move was to floor the sucker all the way. So I'm getting close to the corner, I see ONE SET OF TRACKS on the road. So I have to burn it, go into a controlled slide and slide into the one set of tire tracks on the road, the only way I'll have enough traction to keep going. If I stop at the stop sign, I'm screwed. If I slide too far, I'm screwed, if I slide short of the tracks, I'm screwed.
As I'm approaching the corner, I state to Dan (daughter's boyfriend). "Dude, I'm going to have to use all my video game racing skills to get through this corner". He laughs his a** off, I start the motion and nail it perfectly. Swear to god it felt like I was racing in Sega Rally on one of the snow levels.
When I got home (had a tough time but I made it). My daughters on the phone talking to her boyfriend who tells her "your dad has serious driving skillz".
Probably just brownie points but nice to hear anyway . I'll say this, I remember the big snow banks from '71, but hell if I remember any worse 1 day snowfall... ever.
I guess the trees around our house shielded us a bit, because I swear the snow cut from my snow-blower wasn't more than 30 cm...
On a related note... a "heart-warming" story... We had a birthday party for our son yesterday, and invited a few friends and their kids to join the fun.
One couple have a diabled little girl who needs a special wheelchair to get around. They also have a specially-fitted van for the chair.
Unfortunately, their road hadn't been plowed yesterday so they were not able to get out of their driveway.
So all their neighbours, who have been extremely supportive of them, banded together and took all their collective snowblowers to plow the 400m of road they needed to travel to get to them main road.
They made it to the party, and the little girl had a ball...
