Hello, I'm new to this board and have a simple question regarding wax to clean a playfield. I own a Gottleib Sinbad pin and want to know which product would be best to use to clean the playfield. I've read all about Novus 2, however; there was a website which warned people not to use Novus 2 on pins made before 1980. Now I'm a bit hesitant to use it until I get an OK from the experts here or suggestions for another product. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I usually use (in this order): - Magic Eraser with 90% (or more) alcohol. Don't go overboard when rubbing with the magic eraser. - Novus 2 - Mother's Pure Carnauba wax (available at Canadian Tire)
I've used Novus on non-mylared playfields many times with no trouble.

I have Magic Eraser but have yet to get Novus 2. So it's OK to start with ME before the novus? |

I have noticed that many pre-85 Gottliebs are subject to severe flaking of the playfields. Magic Eraser might be a tad harsh in this case. Your best bet would be to find a test area on your playfield first. Strip the playfield in a small area where there is some playfield paint but is not usually exposed to the eye (under a plastic somewhere can do just fine) and try the eraser there. Magic Eraser is fantastic on ball swirls (I was one of the first to report on it on RGP wayyyyyy back), but it is aggressive on old-school lacquer playfields. This is why Novus 2 is still appreciated. Less effective than the eraser and needs more elbow grease, but much less harsh. And I agree 100% on the Mother's... smells tasty too! |

Thanks for the reply Sparky. I will try ME under some plastics to test, however; I think I will stick to using Novus 2 to just get a good cleaning. The last thing I want to do is damage the playfield. |

OK, just to get things straight, I should use Novus 2 first and then follow up with Mother's Pure Carnauba wax? Just want to clarify that before I start? TX. |
