Looks like this museum plan is getting closer to reality. It is being set up as a non profit organization, so there may be some government funding available. However, there is already an investment of 100 games, and more ongoing ( Pins/Vids/Em's) that have been made, as well as about 20 home systems, so it is not totally reliant on them. As a result, if anyone would like to provide the following, it would be appreciated, and would greatly increase the chances of getting a grant;
1. Board of Directors: No renumeration, oversight , vision of organization, expert advice, need not be a technically oriented individual
2. Volunteers, No renumeration, assistance in any of the following: restoring games, electronics, graphics, some cab / woodwork, workshop's for other interested parties related to arcade machines, general help, curator/historian particularly those who have actually operated an arcade or route for many years/ retired pers .
3. School contacts: Anyone with contacts to a school from elementary up to post secondary level, specifically to arrange/request visits for classes to come and visit the museum as part of a day trip/ educational trip pertaining to the history of arcade games/electronics. The idea is that the museum will provide daytime access to schools for no charge, and the public will pay a flat fee for unlimited access, e.g 10$.
Although their is little money to pay volunteers, or board members, there are benefits, including , but not limited to, unlimited free access to the museum, some storage, access to restoration facilities and equipment, access to high end graphics reproduction equipment, assistance in restoration/repairs, possible consignment of machines assistance,interaction with community, an opportunity to learn how to teach classes or workshops ( The three of us involved right now are all ex drill/demolition instructors) and giving back to the community while helping to sustain this endeavour, which I feel is needed, and would be beneficial to a lot of people, especially children and younger people who " missed " the whole arcade experience and the evolution of it. In any case, any interested parties PM me, and I'll get back to you. This is just a exploratory search for interest, if you PM me you are not obligated, nor will you be expected to "slave" for 60 hrs a week for free, rather the more people that volunteer, even an hour or two a week, the better off this whole thing will be. Thanks a lot for reading, and hoping to hear back from you..
I think it would be good to give a little more detail here. Names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.
Understood. Location is going to be in Toronto. My name is Gerald, other 2 guys that are involved are Ryan and Walt. My contact number is 416 759 9608, feel free to call me anytime to discuss.
I just PMed you Gerald... I don't have much to offer but the occasional cleaning/refurbishing of a pin or vid cabinet. As long as there is a way to get it to me, I will work on them.
This is awesome news, if I lived in TO I'd help out.
