Oh yeah... it happened again... less than a week after my water damage on one side of my gameroom, guess what happens. My wife calls me up at work around 2pm, asking me if I am sitting down (oh mess...). She tells me that the wall and floor where all the pinballs are are soaked. Needless to say I raced back home. After more sheetrock ripping and carpet removing, I find that the leak is from a tiny pinhole that formed on the main pipe 12 inches above the valve. It had been pissing for about 24 hours. So now? No more sheetrock, no more carpet, and all the games are in my dining room upstairs. Again, lucky to have no damage. The water was under the pins, so of no consequence. This is not my week... |

Plumber probably long gone as this was done 28 years ago... is the original pipe. The plumber at Home Depot said that he retired after 32 years as a plumber (I guess he still loves the field since he is a consultant at the store) and he said it is a REALLY rare occurence that a pipe leaks like that. They mostly leak around the joints. He mentioned that it was probably a minor weakness in the copper that caused it to fail prematurely... 28 years later! |

That's either a brilliant, or very cruel, pun. Hey Ian, I'm really sorry to hear about all your water problems. I think I need to get the Robo cab out of there before your roof starts to leak... PM me if I can help you out someway. Cheers, Steph |

Did the plumbing ever freeze in the house? It's not common for copper just to give out. Unless there is some movement or water hammer happening in the pipes that is weakening the joints. |

Nope... just a freak burst. I installed a new pipe, new valve, new drain valve and installed a nitrogen accumulator which is designed to absorb any hammering in the lines. No more problems... well... in that area anyways. |

I feel sorry for you, my plumber neighbour installed a toilet drain in our basement for us. I relayed the concrete. Then he moved. Now there is a "damp spot" seeping up under the concrete...
When it comes to pinhole copper pipe leaks, one of the first things to look for is a stray nail or sheetrock screw, particularly if the pipes are mounted too close to the wall. |

Nope... it really was an asperity (foreign material which entered the copper when it was formed). I checked wiht the microscope I use for mettalic failure analysis at work. |
