I have a CPR playfield and plastic set to be installed sometime in the future - probably next winter. In the meantime I have made several repairs and have been enjoying the game very much in spite of the old playfield with mylar bumps etc.

There are still a few small problems to figure out. The flippers have been completely rebuilt but one of them sticks up occasionally (maybe once in 5 games). Not sure what is wrong, it's a mechanical problem (stays up if I power off) but nothing obvious to me.

Sometimes a direct hit of an ORBS target, does not drop the target. I replaced the plastic parts but not the springs, maybe those need to go as well. Or maybe they will drop better after a few more plays.

Also a strange thing, sometimes when the ball goes through the top right lane, it acts like a 1-4 target was hit. Haven't investigated that one yet.

At first I thought the outlane bumpers needed some kind of adjustment but since then have learned that it takes a different kind of nudge to save the ball on the left side vs. the right side.

I to enjoy the game very much as well , even if the PF is totaly wrecked . The paint is coming off so bad that it makes a flour like dust wich sticks onto the balls . Else then that , it ' s working fine and it came with an ultimate board , lucky me . A friend of mine is fixing the original board . That means that i ' ll have the ultimate to drive my pins if i ever have a MPU trouble .

For the drop target , both my flash gordon and centaur do it as well . Only my xenon doesn ' t . It seems like my xenon ' s OK , because of the angle the tagets stand .  I went on a forum true google and the topic was bally ' s targets that don ' t come down when you hit them hard right in the face .

Some guy was saying that he moved the target bank as far forward as he could , targets right against the PF and it solved the problem . I ' ll do the same quite soon on my centaur since $$$ had been coming in lately . I try and manage to make this hobby a self financed one and lately , it ' s amazing the amount of pins that cme my way lately , kicking around in basements and garages .

The mars trek that i kept , the firball II that also had the drop target problem , seems like a recurent problem on most drop target bally pins , sold it to a new MAACA member , the taxi , sold to tiger_31 , the haunted house , sold to my friend for dirt sheap ( $600 and in a mint shape ) , an other xenon two weeks ago tha will be ready to go soon , somebody ' s on it already , and to finish it up , an eight ball last friday , already sold to a futur MAACA member .

$200 profit is what i figure is a decent profit . Considering the price i get them , it ' s a really good deal . The eight ball went for $400 . That way , they go fast and my wife ' s not getting to upset about it . Also , my centaur ' s already paid for , including all the brand spanking new stuff to dress it up . OK , enough is enough , or else it ' s gonna take half an hour just to read that ...

It sounds like the targets have a small design flaw, I can live with that, it adds a little to the challenge of the game.

Ballys ALL do that. Hit then dead-on at full force, and they just seem to bounce back forward before they can drop down enough to clear their tab. It can be adjusted...

Reset the targets and check how much travel the target takes before dropping. You will probably notice that on the total lateral travel of the target, on 80% of it stays raised. When you bring the target bank forward, the playfield now limits the forward travel of the target, not the drop target assembly. This reduces the ration of lateral travel on which the target is still held up, and even in some cases adds "drop" travel, especially if the target is limited on the rear part by the playfield. Tighter springs also makes for a quicker drop, so it gives the target less chance to bounce back.

Reducing the "raised" travel can cause the drop targets to become overly sensitive and drop for nothing, especially if you are using original targets, therefore with some wear.

Best thing is to get new targets, then adjust.

Start with the new targets with new springs (old ones loosen with time). Then if still not OK, adjust the bank.
