I was contacted by a local guy with a jukebox asking me if I'd take a look at it, wasn't working right.  After being very clear that I know next to nothing about jukeboxes, he convinced me to come take a look.  It's at a winery near here, so I figured, hey, this might be worth my while, ha ha.   Just kidding.

ANyway, it's a Seeburg DS100 Selectomatic 100, in great shape.  But it won't play the records, so right now it's a big anchor.  Here's what it does:
You make a selection, the needle/mechanism moves to the correct record, picks it up alright, and the needle barely touches and then it puts it back and the returns the needle/mechanism back to resting position.

So here's what I figure (bearing in mind I'm not a juke guy) - there's one of 2 things happening.  A switch or sensor that says "There is a record here" is not being activated, so the needle/mechanism goes back to resting because it "couldn't find" the record.  I could find no such switch or sensor being activated when teh record is picked up.
My stronger feeling is that there is a switch or sensor that says "The record is over playing" and it's being activated when it shouldn't.  So the record picks up, then figures it's already over, so it puts it back.

Any insight, smarter-guys-than-me?  AND, anyone have a schematic I can borrow/copy?
Daniel

My money is on the E.O.R. switch closing too early. If memory serves it sits near the back of the play arm at the base of the pivot. They did not use sensors, so you should be able to see it close or open at the end of the record.

If it isn't that, post your observations, and I will ask one of the old timers in my neighbourhood (i.e. the father-in-law, - 26 years of fixing jukes for Laniel Automatic, he should know and also have schematics if it comes to that. Come to thinkabout it, I guess that I married his daughter because I knew she would be use to having those machines around while she was growing up.

On second thought, on a DS100 the EOR switch is magnetic, so it is rare that it will be the cause of the problem unless it was physically moved or tampered with. It sits on the left hand side of the player arm carriage. If the machine hasn't played for a long time, more than 5 years let's say, it could also be a siezed clutch, and that is a bit of b**** to service. (no I am not a jukebox tech, my father-in-law just stopped in by chance five minutes ago for some parts - to speak of the devil himself)
