I realize these boards are just mame, but how much dicking around is required with screen resolution and that sort of thing? Do the vertical games look semi-decent on a horizontal monitor?

I've been running mame for years but it would be nice to have a single self-contained board that eliminates the need to know multi-button shortcuts and most (if not all) manual user intervention. I mean, I know the shortcuts, but my kids certainly don't.

They are almost plug and play.
Just plug it into your Jamma cabinet with a joystick.
From what I understand they don't run mame it's home brew software and linux.
They are basically a PC with a large flash drive. I would love to get one that run's MAME.

What do you mean about "almost"?

Will they run vertical games on a horiztonal monitor?

What type of configuration is required (if any)?

Hmm... interesting. 2 people have asked me to use this instead of a computer in their mames. To be honest, it looks rather complete. Mame incorporates the multiple versions and variations of games. This list looks good.

Retiring soon...

almost plug and play is right. Mine is currently on its way back for a new one, lots of issues.I swapped in an lcd monitor as the crt looked distorted. Some freezing up/having to reboot. I was constantly having to reset the configuration in the menu to get it to start a game, got to the point that was rarely working, would take credits etc,and the start buttons functioned to return you to the menu, but would not start the game. No general free play setting, each game must be done independantly.Terry assures me there has been no issues elsewhere, I must have gotten a lemon, they agreed to swap it out, but I will be out the shipping costs. on the upside the games list was incredible and the few times I got it to work it was amazing, I guess I will have to wait and see..

Pins : Playing Gorgar, Galaxy
         Fixing :   Wild Fyre, Lectronamo

Vids: Centipede upright, 1943(project), Thunder Fox(converting to 60-1), and World Rally.

i have it and its good  only issue with the 1940 in 1 compared to jamma boards killer edition ison the 1940 it stretches the screen,  on the killer edition it uses black bars.

If I were you I would wait to buy one until they are done project 4006  check out http://www.xxxx-in-1.com  it will be approximately 2000 some odd games,  with no doubles, no mahjong, no non english games.

My 650 in 1 is also a bit buggy-
It freezes after it has been running long enough.
Turning it off and on makes it work for a few more hours.
I will likely get another at some point when there are a lot more games on them, theres still a lot of mame games that are missing.

the board does support 4 players,  but its a weird set up,  it is actually made for dual cabinet support,  it has a board that goes in to a separate jamma harness and feeds audio, video and controls to another machine.
