In an effort to defend myself, let me add that I have made the offer to buy back the machine, less the cost of delivering it. I know that I do not really have to defend myself, as most members who know me also know that ripping people off is not my style. What we have here is a transaction that was doomed from the start. I had at least two others that were interested in the machine and would have gladly taken it without a working knocker. I spent about 15 hours troubleshooting the problem at the request of the buyer. With the help from other MAACA members, I replaced a couple of wiring hacks and while in my possession, the problem was resolved. I played games, I heard the knocker when I won games, it was working fine. Why would I drive it to Montreal if it wasn't ?
So to summarize:
-I am initially required to arrange for delivery of the machine, since as with the other 99% of my transactions, I must always do the driving. -After making several other deals with people to pick up or deliver machines during that trip, the buyer lets me know that delivery is not needed since he will be coming to Toronto. That put me in a little predicament. Oh well, I'll go to Montreal anyway, I said to myself. I have a couple of people depending on me. -The member shows up a day early because of a family emeergency but I am away for the day. We go back to the original plan and I tell another member that I don't have room for his machine to Montreal any longer. -I discover what I consider to be a small issue with the machine ~ knocker doesn't work. I don't feel that it is significant enough a problem to offer a discount on the machine. I had already performed several upgrades on the machine which I did not use to inflate the price, so I figured it was a trade-off. Beside, I had already gone through much effort to arrange delivery only to have it cancelled then re-booked. - I offer to cancel the deal. No money had changed hands and I had other buyers lined up as previously mentioned. - The buyer would prefer not to cancel. Instead, at his request, I attempt to resolve the problem, even though I warned that fixing it might open up a can of worms. I realize that I had also bought a machine without a knocker. Did I care ? Did I complain ? No. And there were other small issues with the machine when I bought it. Did I complain ? No, I just fixed them up. That's what we do. -After many hours I have every reason to believe the problem is resolved. Just in the nick of time, as I have to leave for Montreal the next morning. -I deliver the machine, and all is good...so I believe. -After being without MAACA access for a few days, I return home to find that the buyer has used my own MAACA thread to announce to the community that the problem has not been resolved. I guess because I had not responded to his PM ( I hadn't seen it while away ) he was angry. -I send a PM right away offering assistance and asking for more info. -A couple of days go by, then finally a response that is not mean, but is subtly accusing me of misrepresentation or misdealing -I made an offer to buy back the machine -I discover that the buyer is using me as a scapegoat for his departure from the MAACA community and now I don't really feel like trying to fix this situation anymore
And for those of you whose command of the french language is about the same as mine, the last line of the buyers post reads ...et pour toi Glenn je t en souhaite de bien mauvaises choses... which basically translates into "and Glenn, upon you I wish very bad things...". What is up with that ? |

I really don't want to get involved but sorry mon cher David but indeed Glenn is a VERY NICE GUY that really doesn't deserve that kind of comments. if he was so nice to offer to buy it back and you refused, THEN ITS YOUR PROBLEM. You don't have the right to give him crap like that.

I don't want to defend anyone nor take sides, but like I said previously, I firmly believe that this is just a big misunderstanding, but got enflammed due to emotion. finger-pointing never solves anything.
I know both you guys very well. David, you are a good guy and well-intentioned and passionate. I just believe that you posted a bit early and should have left the dust settle first. When frustrated, it's always best to write after cooling down a bit. And I know Glenn very well as well. I really doubt that he would have intentionally sold a machine with hidden faults. and in this case, he even posted asking for help prior to delivering the machine, which does depict good intentions.
Guys, I hate to see this happen. So I propose to help out a bit. If Glenn offered to buy it back, I will offer to pick it up at the next meeting and arrange to hold onto it until either someone else buys it or I bring it back MYSELF to Toronto on my next trip (I have a few things to bring down eventually to Kingston Pete and some guys in TO).
What do you say? Sound OK? |

David is angry because the repairs is beyond is skill and he had to paid somebody else to do it. Already starting to pay a technician so the bill is going up for the machine and still have issues last time we talk. Wish I had time to look at the machine, maybe I could have help so the situation wouldn't have degenerate like now.

Glenn's the .1%. He posted a summary that took up my entire screen. The games are old and in many cases suffer from planned obsolescence. For example my Gn'R has worked without fail for months and then all of a sudden would not feed a ball. After two hours of testing and investigation I found a molex pin no longer was conducting on the A/B board. Molex connectors were not designed to last forever. The point I am making here is you must be prepared to work on the games or have someone do it for you to keep them running. If having someone do it is a point of frustration, maybe that frustration is misdirected in this case. Looking at Glenn's "summary" , he was very forthright and accommodating throughout the transaction process. According to his post he offered on numerous occasions for you to get out of the purchase. He further offered to take the entire game back for what you paid for it. If your desire to own this game is so high and the frustration your having with it is driving you do say Glenn is the .1%, I must say in light of all he has attempted to do to make a fair transaction your really not being fair outing him as a bad guy when everything else indicates otherwise. |
