Hey gang, Im about to get the new rubbers for Pinbot at the post office and start my first ever pinball "shop". Any tips? The playfeild, ramps, etc, are pretty dirty, whats the best product to use on them? Any advice would be great, Thanks!
As for the rest .. -Take plenty of reference photos -go slow on your first time -place parts in a semi organized fashion.. it makes it 10x easier to put back together
Considering this is your first shop job, you probably don't have Novus 2. Get a bottle of plastic cleaner/polisher from Canadian Tire. Use on the plastic ramps. For playfield plastics, I use warm water and dishwater soap and a toothbrush - with the plastics removed of course!
You can probably use the plastic cleaner product on the playfield as you would Novus 2. Use high end carnuba car wax on the playfield after. 3-4 coats should give you a nice shine.
Bottom line is DON'T USE WATER on the playfield!!!!!!

Great advice guys, thanks...and here I was thinking windex would do the job...just kidding! Hey, Ive gotten the message "adjust exit ramp switch", how do you "adjust" a switch.
Go into test mode, switch edge, and test the switch and bend it as required to make it more sensitive. Test with a ball and not your finger.
You could also get this error message if you haven't made the ramp in a long time.
The exit ramp switch is on the blue ramp, right side, just above the mini-playfield.

I'm also in the middle of shopping my first pinball, the judge dredd I picked up. It had some nasty, dirty tracks, especially around the back areas where you can't really get to without removing the ramps back there. It's turning out good. There's some grooves though, small ones, in some areas.
I'm using Carnauba Wax to finish off the playfield, used Novus 2 to clean it. Still had to scrub pretty hard with the Novus 2.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get all the crap off the stainless steel rail guards though, you know that line the ball creates form hitting the rail in the same spots all the time? So far what I've tried: sandpaper 200 grit (woudln't use this again, too abrasive) 400 grit (better) 600 grit (alot better) 800 grit (started giving it a mirror type shine)
Also, I've tried Softscrub with one of those spunges with the slightly abrasive green pad on the back of it, which amazingly worked for the most part, but the ball has put I think a very shallow groove into the rails so I will probably have to buff that out with the sandpaper after using the soft scrub. Finally I'll be using 'Mother's metal polisher" on them.
Any other ideas woudl be great.
I shined up the wire ramps with a good chrome polisher from Murrays (can't remember the name now). Used Novus 2 on the plastic ramps.
I took a bunch of pictures at certain stages while i was breaking down the playfield. I took before photos and cant' wait to compare to the after photos. The game should look seriously good.
I want to do one thing that I'm not sure of. There is mylar in front of both slingshots. Whomever put that crap on didn't clean the playfield first, so there is dirt trapped under there. So, i can't make those two spots look as great. But, I'm afraid someone maybe did a touchup job there and I don't want to pull off anything. Any suggestions? Should I attempt this? there's another spot with mylar i want to pull off. The mylar looks like it is pulling up in some spots already (air bubbles sorta around the outside). The mylar is over the rocket on the playfield on the left shooter lane of the game. The mylar pieces in front of both slingshots are about the size of each slingshot plastic. The mylar over the rocket is just over the rocket area.
I REALLY REALLY want to pull those 3 pieces of mylar off. I was thinking of using a hair dryer, googone, and just slowly but surely inching it up. Any suggestions would be great.
And by the way, I have an 81'2 by 5ft pool table in the same room as the pinball im' shopping and there are pieces EVERYWHERE!

It has been said but I will say it again-Take Pictures and take notes, you will want reference when putting everything back together. I am still doing a playfield swap going into my 2nd month on account of having no reference of what goes where...lol, Kidding, kinda

If you go to ipdb.org people have uploaded all kinds of detailed photos for just about every game. If you didn't take reference photos, you can probably get enough detail out of those.

Wow! What a difference in game play! Is it ever fast and unpredictable now......but what a pain in the butt it was. The guide they give with the new rubbers is useless. Now, I just have to wax it. Over at crappy tire there where a bunch of different "carunba" wax products. Does anyone have a favorite type or brand. The pink hard pucks in tin containers caught my eye......
I use Mill Wax, that is especially made for pinball machines, it gets those black trax out and leaves a nice polish on the playfield, however a lot of elbow grease is required. Starburst in Toronto sells it and they have Novus also.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!
The problem I find with millwax is no matter how careful you are with the stuff you always end up with that cheese wax crap on these posts.
If I can find them in all the colours, one day I am going to swap them out for the 1 1/16" smooth ones. I hate that build up crap on there right after you have totally stripped down the machine.
