Saw an early preview of the movie last night. I think fans of the series will not be disappointed. Those looking for high drama will be
Typical stuff, but so damn cool. The effects are outstanding in this movie. It's absolutely amazing to be able to see them transform. The fight screens are very cool. My personal fav was the fight on the highway.
I think it's pretty safe for young ones. You don't see any humans die. There are a few "mess, mess, mess" when a guy is running from a bad Robot and one "mother fu..." but that is broken by the bang of a missle. I saw it last night to make sure it was ok to bring my 6 year old and 4 year old.
In the end I enjoyed it and I'm not a fan of the original series. It was really cool to see it on opening night. You could really feel the excitement.
Part 2 and 3 are already approved. Now this would make an amazing pinball. Like Spiderman, it covers a few generations and would grab the kids. Much better idea than Wheel of Fortune!

I actually won a screening for the movie and saw it last Thursday. Movie is awsome true to transformers but they use peices of each series. I find it was well made. Mega tron is not a gun he is the original shape from cybertron. it was a good ride but the fight scenes can really be hard to follow because it goes so darn fast.
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
I was not all that pleased as some of you are. Yes the effects were awsome. The CG was REALLY well done and the characters are great.
However, there are some scenes (one in particular) that are just plain stupid and could have been left out completely. I will not mention them as there are many who have not yet watched it. The fight scenes were to close and too fast apart from a few as mentioned above. I was sitting rather close to the screen due to people sitting with spaces between them so that may contribute to my displeasure.
The transformations look cool unitl you try to figure out where everything is going.
all in all it was ok for me. Could be my fault for not getting there earlier to get better seats and so on. "Oops, My Bad!" Maybe I will see it again under better circumstances or wait for DVD.

Bay movies are typically 'Action Fluff', i.e. no substance just things blowing up with some dialog and the occasional good looking person.
I think you are referring to two possible scenes: (I'll try to be cryptic here as to not give away anything.)
-the parents conversation. I agree it could have been chopped. But I and most of the theater laughed during that scene. For me I just chalked it up to the whole nostalgia and goofiness of being a kid and Bay trying to appeal to the teen audience.
-The arrest and S7 boxer shorts No excuses here. They could have cut several minutes from this character and I would have been happy.

I agree there was some 'Fast Motion Blur' Cheating going on. But TF is not the only film guilty of this. As you mentioned it didn't help that you were up close. That said, in the wide shots the robots look great and as usual ILM does some great work.
Michael. Bay has said from the beginning of production. The movie will be called Transformers and you will have robots changing into cars. After that, the similarities will end. Being armed with that and the fact that SM3 and POTC3 were utter disappointments. I came to TF with Zero expectations.
I actually really enjoyed the film. Yeah Optimus has lips; but he's voiced by Peter Cullen and that adds a lot of credibility for me. The poked some fun at VW and Armageddon. The movie could have been chopped by 10-20 minutes but, the shots looked great and there was plenty of action, and they didn't mangle the essence of what makes Transformers fun. One site said it best:

Apparently, it is unclear to the executives behind Transformers why we, and many other nerds, watched the show to begin with. We suppose the burden of responsibility falls on us to clarify: It's the giant robots fighting each other .
Anyways enjoy it for what it is. A toy that was turned into a comic, which was turned into an animated series to sell more toys, that became an animated feature movie, which eventually (20 odd years later) made it into the live action film we see today.

Maybe my expectations were way to high as well. I had been waiting for this for a LOOOOOONG time.
Next up, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. An other dissapointment or a Killer movie? Previews look good any way.

Whew! That's great news. I am glad to see they left Dildotron out so the kids could go.
