finally picked up a game I always wanted, will be cool having it next to ElVIS (my wife pin.) and my other retro games. here we go: the back glass is near perfect(very small chip) :cab is nice but will make stencils and repaint another, keeping this one original :might need board work,no big deal :will repaint the legs :needs a new pf or overlay,touch-ups are out
so i figured i buy an overlay, they range between 180 and 240 US dollars ,not that bad,but saw one on ebay.....big mistake!!! total wast of money! cheap copy of crappy overlay and/or badly done job! well nows the time to test out that flat bed scanner i picked up this summer at a yard sale (5 bucks!) after taking the fp appart i scaned it in......10 passes at 300 dpi to stitch it later in photoshop, each piece was carefully aligned to perfection using the magnifing glass(not as bad as it sounds) now it was off to work ,re-doing all the colors and repairing the worn sections, hours of fun!!! I borrowed the Phantom chart from work to match as close as pissible all colors, also had to test print the colors i used since the printer at work dosnt reproduce to 100% Phantom colors here are a few pictures for now of the project....
Maybe CPR have the project to make the playfield repro, better to ask them, they make fantastic job !
Illinois Pinball reproduced these a few years back. Last fall, when I was at Gene's show (and at the Rochester show in the Spring), he had a whole wall of them still. Not listed on the web site, but they are out there.

Some dude in Detroit has sold a couple of KISS playfields, virtually new, for $450 - $475 USD. This is the lowest price I have ever seen. I thought about picking one up just to have, but have other uses for the $$$ right now. At these prices, a new playfield is much more appealing. There may be more deals like this as the U.S. continues to stuggle financially.
Magneto, did you cut out the inserts in the overlay? And if so how to get it accurate?
Thank you!
actually I SHOULD of but tried something different.....I have the inserts covered with the vinyl which is translucent so the light does go through.this is a compromise between perfect alignment and insert color.some inserts are a-bit off but dosnt show at all this way.
the next one if I was to do another overlay will have blanks (no insert printed) and will cut out with a template after the overlay is put on(with a lamp under the pf for line-up),then put on an insert decal....this will grantee perfect alignment and the real beauty of the original plastic inserts.abit more work but should be real nice! its work in progress!
