Yup... I sincerely hope that good (financial) things are coming my way, because this is getting ridiculous. Believe it or not, I have had my bank card cloned again... un-frickin-believable. Now, because of this, I am flat broke again until the bank fixes it. Sorry folks... any one who was enjoying the pinball-savings-thermometer is going to have to pass now... it is back at 0$.

I must admit, this is extremely frustrating. And worse thing of all, the bank won't tell where it happened again. I guess I will have to adhere to a cash-only mentality....like it was 20 years ago. This is even making me reconsider the hobby. I was getting lined up to buy a pin in a couple of weeks and now that is down the drain.

... f*** that...I will never give up the hobby. I will not rest until I can afford to buy the rights back from WaynO. ... But it still sucks though.

sorry to hear that.  our truck has taken another chunk out of us.  another $2500.  thats over $7k in the past couple months.  but at least its almost all new.
then our tattooist tells us today that he is moving to another city monday to work there.  during our busy season.  we were also trying to move our shop to peterborough.  just finished buying $1500 in more tattoo stock for the bastard.
don't want to get out of collecting machines.  but might not open another shop.  just go work for someone else and relax alittle.
again sorry to hear that sparky and hope they fix it all fast for you.  we mostly deal with only cash.  have a debt card just to use at the banks.   maybe time to just stuff our mattress again.

So you are saying they never told you where your card was cloned the first time?  That is BS.  Sorry to hear that.

Geez, that IS scary...

I know I've changed my debit card habits somewhat after hearing this the first time
(...I now no longer use debit cards at convenience stores, and only ATMs at bank locations
... and of course, ALWAYS cover the keypad when I type my PIN ), but this is even more alarming...

Maybe I should only use cash and credit cards  (...like we all did 20 years ago ! )

Sorry for your troubles Ian.
Hopefully it will sort itself out quickly.

Cheers,
Steph

Sorry about this Sparky,
you're a good guy and you don't deserve all that crap. At this point, there's not much you can do. What I do when I am upset about something, I just go in the gameroom to play with my favorite games and forget about everything else. That's what a gameroom is all about. Good luck.

Yup, they don't because they say it is most often the work of one employee in a certain business, and they don't want the business to go bankrupt due to the backlash...

I can't ... all I have are projects other than Wizard of Wor and Bank Panic. And I play those already every night.

I miss pinball...

Sorry to hear that, Sparky.

My reccomendation is to use VISA or another credit card and never use the bank card unless absolutely necessary and only in locations that are trustworthy. I have heard your story to many times from too many people. My secretary got screwed by the local gas station that she has been using for 30 years, new employee was swiping PIN numbers and cleared her account. Took weeks to resolve. Use your credit card, it is much safer.

Seems that is the best recommendation, but cripes I cann't believe it's coming to that. My business partner swears by this approach. He pays for EVERYTHING on CC and pays it off weekly via on-line banking. Seems like a pain but it works for him.

Its becoming an all to common occurrence unfortunately.  Several of my friends have had their cards cloned, sometimes repeatedly; and like you the banks refuse to divulge the source of the cloning.  This weekend in fact my friend had his identity stolen, not a fun experience.

All I can suggest for everyone is to limit your debit card exposure.  Seems like common sense but I see my friends pay by debit countless times for minor purchase such as a 10 dollar lunch.  In this case take out 100 or so from the debit machine and use cash instead.  If your one of those people who can't carry cash in your wallet due to spending habits then carry your credit card with you.  Relatively its still easier to claim fraud on a CC then debit card.

Hope you get things cleared up soon sparky

Another advantage of a credit card is you can collect some kind of points, you get nothing with a bank card.

Not so, I get airmiles with mine. But I rarely use it at convenience stores.

My question is, how does the bank expect you to not have it happen again if you don't know where it was done.
Do they at least contact the establishment to let them know?

The establishments are apparently under investigation.

Well, at least I found ONE convenience store I can trust now... see the "Shameless plug" post!

I get "bonis-points" with mine... which are 1% of all my purchases, can be applied to my mortgage or any other products that Desjardins is offering. I just applied 300$ to my mortgage again thursday, i pay everything i can with my Visa. there is a 20$ annual fee... which is nothing compared to that 300$ alone. Worth every penny, pay with Visa and save, of course you have to pay your bills on time, i always do, never use the card if you dont already own the money in your account, golden rule.

Unfortunately i still use my debit card a lot and get scared everytime i read such stories... thx for warning us Sparky, it can happen to anyone anywhere.

Same here Visa on everything and just make sure I can pay it off for the points.  I coach a track and field team and I pay for all the rooms etc get reimbursed and collect points.  I have a debit card but rarely use it as visa is accepted almost everywhere.  Still I would love to catch one of those f'ers who clones cards and show them............. sorry venting again.
