Hello everyone, we have a location for the museum ( Finally), it is at 74 Crockford blvd in Scarborough, near Warden and Eglinton
On 26 Sep ( Saturday) we are going to have an arcade auction, of surplus games we have been collecting for the last while, some parts, and other items. As well, I am probably going to buy about 50 more games to liquidate at this auction, mostly newer ones, to raise some more capital for the museum decor
There will be a door prize to one lucky bidder ( Have to register to win)...a working ms pacman!
If anyone has any interest in putting any of their own games into this auction, for this time only, I will put up to 2 games in the auction for free, each extra having a flat fee of 10 $. That is all you pay, and you keep the proceeds
Afterwards, we will be putting on a little bit of a mixer for the Maaca people and some of the Cgcc guys too, as a bit of a thank you for everything to get us this far. There will be a more formal party shortly thereafter, like a grand opening for the museum.
I expect to have at least 100 video games, and pins in this auction
Comments appreciated.
PS Any assistance in getting the word out would be appreciated too
Pre auction list.. i will work on it, hoping some others throw in some of their own games to spice it up ( They keep all the proceeds)
Food and beverages.. probably some gourmet food ( By gourmet I mean stuff that is microwavable) and pop and water and that crap, seriously, for the " afterparty, there will be some of that, and not microwavable crap either)
Dress code..Plaid suits and tophats only please. Monacles would be a nice touch too
Do it in late October ....i'll be able to attend. Can i bid by proxy?

Honestly, we plan to have one every month, so don't worry about missing the first one
I don't know about the proxy bidding, that has always irked me ( Personally), and i think it rubs others the wrong way as well, however i will see if i can come up with an alternative that works for everyone involved
The idea here is to have an auction for collectors...not for operators ( Like other unnamed auctions) projects would be welcome, i would say, as well as some not often seen items in auctions like playfields, backglasses, parts, pcbs etc, that we all use. Shill bidders, shenanigans or any other BS won't be too welcome, and i think we all know how to spot that type of behavior. Idea is for me to give away a game at every auction as a door prize, to encourage attendance, and showcase the museum ( As it gets built up)
As well as that, the auction would be cheap for sellers too, so it wouldn't cost them money to sell games
This is the start of a community and i will do whatever needs to be done, to make it work, and ensure longevity
Glad to see you guys have interest, any other ideas are welcome, I am open minded.
PS minimum bids , more of an exception than a rule, like I said flexibility is my code.
An auction that i am not previously engaged during!!!!!
I dunno though, between you and Terry/B1 I have given away all mym oney!!!
Time to get a part time job, or maybe you can do " magic tricks for the crowd". Selling beer out of the back of your car at an auction would probably net you a couple of million also, lol

I am considering a members only type deal, for selling games, but that will have to be worked out. The premise would be that the games would be taken in on consignment for up to a month, at a low price to keep them there, like 10-20 bucks a piece. They would be displayed for attempts at retailing them for a few weeks, prior to auction. Then they would be auctioned, with the price to sell, already having been paid. This would afford people an opportunity to " buy them now" as it were, or roll the dice at the auction and build the excitement, interest. As well, it give people a bit of a heads up what to expect in terms of pre auction lists. Yet to be seen is how much space i could afford to use for that, as the museum is going to be a bit of a building process, with all the permits, repairs, leasehold improvements etc. I will keep you guys posted on that.
Bottom line is I would like to see an auction/swap meet venue that i would go to, as there is a market for this , and it will benefit all involved, from the museum, to buyers ( Lower prices, hands on) to sellers ( lower costs to sell- potentially higher prices)

I could eat all the slushies/popcorn and cotton candy and sleep during the whole thing, lol. I like the "carny" touch, honestly, have always had a soft spot for that carny crap, to this day. Guess its because my first summer job was at Exhibition Stadium at CNE in 1985. 3$ an hour, some things never change!
Also, some of you have met me, you probably will all meet me face to face soon, as well as my business partner. I have no intention of bidding on any of the games as well, or making deals with people who put them in on consignment prior to auction. That would be unfair to all involved, and I have a pretty good source/ inventory of games already. There would be two exceptions, fonz and maneater!
I would suggest that you use a starting bid. Put a small fee on the seller to set the starting bid. That way a 1600 dollar pin does not sell for 200 dollars because the seller is stuck in traffic on auction day.

I'm always looking for local 26" dynamo HS5 cabinets PM me!

Yes that does make sense, absolutely. I think newer DMD pins, consignment ones at least, will be one of the types that a starting bid would apply to.
Don't want to poop on the parade, but is there a license required to conduct a "auction" or is a licensed auctioneer required? Are taxes going to be charged here? If this is advertised I would be worried about legalities.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

Yes, everything is going on above board, and taxes will be charged. There will also be a licensed auctioneer

Id really appreciate if anyone had any newer DMD pins they would like to sell. I will not charge anything to put them in the auction, you can use a reserve bid, and it would be great for everyone to get a crack at them. I already have approx 20 SS pins, assorted bodies, heads and backglasses that I'm going to throw in the auction.Would like to have a good assortment of pinball machines and pinball related parts
I know for a fact that there are people who are coming who are looking for DMD pins, are willing to pay, and will be ready to deal, so if anyone is interested, PM me and i'd be glad to accommodate you..for free

Then there was the time he kicked out those 3 'friends' who were unknowingly bidding against each other? Didn't they want to take him outside and give him another black eye?
Say, will there be someone at the auction available to do onsite repairs to monitors or boards? Repair/Cap Kits-While-U-Wait service?
I have a board and monitor that I would like inspected that I have no expertise with.
Unfortunately, there won't officially be anyone there for that, this time, but next time, it is something that I would like to incorporate. However, i am certain there will be people coming who can help you out, I have all the tools, and tons of parts, especially caps
Starburst time = somewhere around 11:20am to 11:50am.... and its always a mystery to who will be starting the auction!
11 AM sharp. I am all about timings, but i can sort of see their point now, being on the other side of the fence. If there is a line of people trying to register, you kind of want to wait for them, but I have two people to process bidders, with a quick system, so hopefully 11 AM sharp
There will be an auctioneer there on time, if not you will have to listen to my dribble, probably take until 9 PM the way I never shut up

Guys, Dave Astill has a small part for me (a security bar for a pinball), and he's going to bring it with him to the GJD auction (but I can't). Could someone who I am going to see over the next little while collect it from him for me? Let me know if you can by PM.
man oh man. i am excited about all this. wish i could have come up and helped during it all. but with all the going on's at the shop and the students back, its been busy the last few weeks. bet nothing compared to what is going on there. can't wait to see my machines and to drop off wipeout and get robocop. hope the parking lot turns out to be a fun spot as always. seems like there might be alot of stuff passed around like always. will be great to see you all again. whats it been? a couple weeks!
Well, last minute decision here. Vesper and son from Ottawa will be heading down to the auction bright and early tomorrow morning. It will be our first MAACA function and were excited and looking forward to meeting other members. Good hunting to all!
