I am royally pissed as I just found out that PAPA11 is being held in August... 14th to the 17th to be exact... I thought it was in October. Crap. I am out on a business trip from the 10th to the 15th. Greeeeeat...
There is still Chicago... but everyone seems to say that it is merely OK. Comments?
So who will be attending PAPA? Let me know, and I will make sure everyone from MAACA at least has a shirt!
This will be my forth year and my first year in the A division, I'm shooting to qualify.
PAPA is allways in Aug, last year was the first and only year it was in Oct. Talked with Kevin one of the organizers of the event and he said the one reason it was in Oct was because of scheduling conflicts and would be back in Aug moving forward.
This year is the 24th ... so I'm thinking of going next year for the big 25th
I've never gone, but I was thinking there was a strong possibility that next year would be the year for me. Didn't know it was the 25th anniversary, wonder what they'll have up their sleeve for it?
What's better about PAPA, is it better organized, have more machines etc...?

PINEXPO is about the people who made pinball. It's where you talk to Larry Demar, Greg Freres and Steve kordek.
It's also about the seminars which other shows do not have.
there's also a tournament there (pinbrawl) which, imho, even if I (we) won it in 2004, takes away from the enjoyment of the show since it's so long and you miss the seminars because of it.

Ah cool. Here's another question. Even though PAPA is a tournament is it the sorta deal where non-tournament machines are set up for play by people who aren't participating in the tournament? Is there a selling going on at PAPA and the Chicago show?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just sort of interested as I've never gone to one.

PAPA is the premier tournament of Pinball, that is why it is considered the World Pinball Championship.
For me Expo has no value, I don't care enough to sit and listen to the seminars and Pinbrawl as a tournament isn't enough to make me want to drive 8 hours to participate.
PAPA is a straight tournament, they have I think somewhere in the relam of 300 games, not all are working but they are all setup. There are 3 divisions, A,B,C, A being for the higher class of player and C being for the beginner. There is no vendors or anything like that it is a 4 day tournament. The only reason I say no tournament people should go to PAPA is because you would be hard pressed to find any venue, Expo included with that many games in one place, it really is something to see.
Both sound pretty good in different ways. I'd probably dig some of the seminars depending on who they had.

You Marty and Marc should come try out A division with me
Probable Marty and Marc, but certainly not myself!!! I still need to practice a bit more....But thanks for the invitation and good luck in the A division.
I won't be doing PAPA this year...due to a scheduling conflict...
I must admit that I haven't played a lot in the last 8 months or so, so I would be spending money for nothing...
However, I'm thinking of going to Chicago as I will most likely have a business trip in the US, which if I leave a few days earlier, I should be able to make a 'little detour' to Chicago, then leave on the Saturday for the 'business portion'.
I don't agree with MrHide, pinbrawl IS fun... long, but fun!!!
After going there 4 (or is it 5?) years straight, you learn that many seminars suck the big one... it's a MUST for a first-timer, but after a few times to the show, it's more of the same every year.
