I have no idea who at Stern thought this theme was a winner, but they are on some serious drugs. Yuck! The gameplay better be awesome and grab the quarters, cause no one is buying that for the home.

This is bad... this is REAL bad. I also wonder wtf was Stern thinking. The demographic just doesn't fit. Most of the people that watch WoF today are over 55. Same as Jeopardy. Basically with a pin, you want to aim for an age group between 18 and 45 (18 being today's gamers, and up to 45 for people who go to bars and actually went to the old arcades). WoF doesn NOTHING to attract people to pinball. Sorry Gary... seems you will have a flop on your hands.

It's true, EMs were still King when 55 year old's were playing, so it's unlikely they get much bar pinball time in.  However, considering that the WOF franchise has been very slutty with its licensing lately, and it worked very, very successfully for IGT Slot Machines, perhaps Gary S. watches WOF nightly?

While reading this post I was surprised to see that no one was defending Stern, as per usual, on WoF. But alas, Mark rides to their defense. For the record, i also believe disaster is written all over it. No desire to own this, who still watches WoF?

Yea I was gonna say what's up with that picture I hope the color is just off.

I think this is going to suck, nothing good can come from this theme, I feel this is going to be another WPT they should really stay away from this kind of theme, it didn't work with HRC, it didn't work for WPT and I doubt it will work with this either.

That's my normal role -- guess I'm the official MAACA Stern defender But when something is this dumb; how can you defend it. I really, really hope I am wrong and it sells like hotcakes, but I doubt it.

Like you said, who even watches the show? Those 2 no talent folks (Pat and Vana) have milked their free ride for 20+ years. The show sucks. It did when I was a kid and it still sucks.

What a waste of talent! Putting Keith Johnson on this wet rag! I am sooooo disappointed in Stern. And the next few themes suck just as much. I hope they can over come this, but I think I see the reaper on the horizon. Let's hope POTC continues to sell well, because they will need something to keep them afloat.

In all fairness, I can see how a crossword theme could work well in a pin. I mean, if there was a DMD in the playfield that produced a word or phrase and you had to hit the correct drop target to light the letters in that phrase (a la Hangman), it would be somewhat fun. Imagine a pin with 26 drop targets to represent every letter. It could work. Seriously.

No biggie. There's always a sucker out there. People will buy toast that has a burn that looks like Jesus or the Mother Mary (as witnessed on eBay) -- doesn't mean there is a market for Wonder Bread to start producing bread in the shape of JC, Mary, Moses, etc.

Would their first names be Pat and Vanna?

edit:  Sheesh, I just found out that Vanna turned 50 this year!  Shows the age of the show.  Even "The Price is Right" would have been better!

Not in love with the title myself but the flippers look very interesting .. seems its a much larger space between the flippers than normal.

on the minus I hate the bobble head figures at the top.

Probably explains why the spacing is wider...

IT can't be that purple, it looks like there's a faulty camera sensor, missinf one of the colors that makes up the spectrum, likely cyan which would introduce more green and blue (doesn't explain the plant though). Other than that I am thinking it may have been colorized on purpose, since it hasn't been press released by Stern yet, maybe they are under some restrictions?  In any case, you can bet it won't be this purple.  I notice that it's the lowest price of the new Sterns.

LOTRs seems to be their best bet, I wonder wher eI can play one in the GTA?

You neglected to mention that it was a B&W TV that you watched them buy for a grand.

WTF is with this "purple thing"? Look at Spiderman next to it in the picture. It looks purple too. It's a bad photo but I am certain it would have no more appeal to me if they used the entire spectrum of colours on it.

I think it's more then that on the side of the posts there are 2 lanes so with switches so there is something more to it.

And the double outlanes it looks like from the way they are positioned you might be able to bounce the ball back into play which would be a really interesting, I haven't seen that done since IJ.

Overall I'm intreged, much more then I was when I knew only about the theme, the layout looks like it's worth a try.

the link from the 2 stolen pics added 5 more:

http://classicpinball.com/wof/

(and man ... is it THAT hard to take ONE good pic?!)

For those who went to allentown this year, the link were posted by Marc Clayton (of pinballpal ) and classicpinball is Kevin McHugh's site.

Marc is on the left and Kevin is on the right in here: http://mrhide.pinnesota.org/gallery/allentown2007/allentown2007_074

Kevin made the show *that much* more enjoyable. A real nice guy !

Well the theme definitely doesn't do anything for me either.  Or for you and you and  your dog or your cat.  Hey wait a minute, I don't think we're really the target market for this game.  Well most of us anyways.....

Maybe this is Stern's attempt to try to get everyone into pinball......young and old alike.  Maybe they're targeting an older market group with a little more disposable income?

I can't really understand the rationale for coming out with this, but that's not to say I wouldn't give it a chance, a least if I had the opportunity to play one.  I really  appreciate the novel sounds, music, voices and game features, not to mention the lights and colors of the new Stern Pinballs.  Did I mention that I was able to find a new Spiderman and Pirates of the Carribean in Winnipeg to play.  Wow, was that a nice surprise.

Would I like to own one, probably not as the theme does less than nothing for me, especially in comparison to some of the other Stern titles out there.  Playing one on the other hand is another question and if it's fun I'll be playing it if given the chance.

flashman-who's just happy there's someone in North America producing new pins and keeping the spirit alive.
