Good price but the photos threw me off a bit so I did an image search and found two of the images elsewhere online. I corresponded that the pinball "... looks like it is in good shape. The backglass looks intact. How long ago were those pictures taken?" Apparently the pinball is in storage and I emailed back that I would need to see it; mentioning that at least two of the pictures posted were lifted from other websites. 'Jim's' response:
You know what bro, i never lifted anything...... i don't want to deal with you ...... f--k off goof !!!!!!!!!

I think a seller that uses language like that speaks volumes about the intelligence for that person. Sounds sketchy if you ask me. No harm doing your homework and asking legitimate questions. His response is atrocious. I saw that ad and my first thought was how interesting, good price, but is this legit? I think that the question has now been answered.

This is Stephen Anderson (or, at least, the person most people agree is Stephen Anderson). There may or may not be a scam, but he's a real treat. Keep up the correspondence and get offensive if you want to have some fun.
Don't waste your time trying to buy the machine. He's a complete loser and the machine won't even be close to his description.
Pinbot is a total crap game anyway. There's infinitely better games out there for less money.
Just tell him your name is Barrister William Babaganoush from Zimbabwe and that you will send him a cheque for 8 million dollars, provided he keeps the sale amount for the pin and wire the rest.
That was my reaction after seeing the listing and hearing about his reply. Stay away.........is my two cents.
I saw these. I concur. Posting appears to follow it's (calling "it", "him" lends to the argument of belonging to the same species as the rest of us which I am sure cannot be the case.) MO in that it was posted in the same areas and had many of the tell-tale signs of the notorious S.A.
It's response just strengthens my conviction that it is in fact it.

Yes, I agree that definitely was a Stephen Anderson/Utterson type ad. The too good to be true pics, claims it is fully functioniong, the larger than standard font. I was screwed over from him last year. So, after checking IPDB to see if that is where the stock photos came from this time (they werent), I emailed simply asking if he and I had done business previously. Wisely, he never replied.
I cannot corroberate all the claims I have read about him, but will confirm he is a most unethical character in his dealings (with myself, at least).

Jesus... it is too bad I live too far. I would have taken care of this. ever hear the expression ''an eye for an eye''? Maybe I am too radical.... but then again, I am the same guy that stole a guy's Momo mags off of his Acura Integra because he ripped me off of 80$.
But I was fair... I sold them for 80$ plus 10$ for my trouble.
its in storage right now, going to be getting it out on the weekend as there are lots of people interested, we just moved so we haven't got the room or really had time to take it out of storage, but we will and it works awesome, due to the amount of emails the price is firm at the moment.....
Jim ------ Hi Jim,
It looks like it is in good shape. The backglass looks intact. How long ago were those pictures taken?
Kev ------ 3 weeks ago kevin, its been in storage for about a month.... before i put it away i had a new left hand side slingshot plastic i got from ebay and its now installed so its got no broken plastics now at all... game is in great shape..... i have had people offer me more to hold it, its sold on a first come first serve basis..... ------ Will you be setting it up this weekend? It would be nice to play it first. ------ Yes it will be setup working for saturday, unless this guy shows up today who might just want to pick it up from storage....... ------ I would need to see it; at least two of the pictures you posted were lifted from other websites.
Where are you located and what time is good? ------ You know what bro, i never lifted anything...... i don't want to deal with you ...... f**k off goof !!!!!!!!!
i got a VERY similar response (f*** off goof, after asking realllllllly legitamite questions) to another ebay ad posted here...seller was canadian liquidator......*trying to remember the ad*
I thought it was odd as he contradicted himself in our correspondence. If you look at the pictures he posted, the left slingshot is broken but he states that the photos were taken ...

He's suggesting that he fixed the plastic before putting it into storage but a week or so later took the pictures ... of the broken slingshot he supposedly fixed (?).
I guess this scamming works as he/they keep doing it despite the general public getting wiser. This type of behavior can't continue indefinitely and he'll eventually cross the wrong (or right) person for the last time.

This guy Mark Uttley, Stephen Anderson, whatever, also uses the name Jim and James. On two occassions I inquired about deals... and he went by Jim one time and James another... same guy though. Turned out it was him... one of he famous deals was the Star Wars around Xmas.
FYI for all you newbies. Check the goods out before you pay. Do a GOOD inspection. Also, NEVER let someone take you PIN to their place (Unless you know them or have a GOOD refference....) I heard this Mark/Stephen/Jim/James will offer to fix your machine for a few hundred bucks, but he needs to work on it at his shop. He gives you a bogus address and phone number, and then you never see him again. But he has your Pin plus the few hundred dollars.
This guy's a real peice of work. I was told he pulled this scam on an old lady in hamilton, who was trying to fix an old Pin of her husbands (before he died) for her grandkids... NICE!!!!

Discussed ad nauseum here Kev, and on cgcc.ca and a few radio/audio boards. Anderson / Uttley is a pariah of the pinball world and gives Hamilton and area a bad name.

This is true. Red flags always go up when dealing with someone unknown from that area.

I agree... but what I STILL don't understand is why no one has done anything about it. Jesus, there is enough evidence to put this guy away easy. Work with the local police to bait him... I figure he must have a rap sheet that is pretty long.
Sorry guys... it's just that I get frustrated when I hear lots of people complain about him over the last 6+ years, and he is still doing his thing.

He is in and out of trouble it seems, and court dates are well into the future, skip bail, move, after a while these guys get good at their lifestyle, working cons that are cash in nature or minor or they know they can get away with little evidence. I suppose eventually he will con the wrong person and be knee-capped.
Man I am beginning to feel sorry for the Pink Panther Ian ... how about one of these, or are they too close to home :

This guy called himself Jim when I dealt with him. He seemed like a nice guy at the time just a bit dopy. He had a sidekick with a trailer who was going to help with the delivery who told me his name, and later in the meeting suddenly he was using a different name. When he wrote down his cell # it said Joe, so thats what I called him. There was a woman in her late 40's there too...Joes girlfriend. They were all in the garage.
Anyway, the thing that pissed me off is that I knew very little about pins at the time. The EM machine I bought would not reset the score when starting a new game after I started it up at home. I called and left him messages asking about this as he presented himself as somewhat of an expert (said he had a university education in electrical, said he burned EPROM's, etc) However he never ever returned a call and eventually I found a "reset" solenoid in the cabinet and after a push all was well.
Anyway he showed me that the old Gottlieb had a manual with it when I was at his house. I hadnt realized at the time but Gottlieb had just placed an injunction of free distribution of their manuals, so this thing was definitely valuable to me. A few days later he and his buddy show up to deliver the 2 machines I bought and there's no manual. No problem he says, since I go to Hamilton regularly I can swing by or he can mail it to me. Never happened despite several polite calls and voice mails.
Just to make it worse, I gave this guy a bunch of stuff I had in the garage that we moved out in order to finish the basement. NOT garbage...furniture, a 300W Yamaha amp, etc...a whole pickup truck worth. Garage sale stuff.
What a worm. Criminal? I dont know about that...but definitely I can say he probably sells to people that are not knowledgeable in pins...and once the sale is done he must figure he screwed you cuz he wants no further contact no matter how well you treated him. That is a sign of someone who has made some enemies in the past, in my opinion. Its just so funny that he is now ther Kaizer Sose of pins!!!!!

wbradley - that's classic Mark Uttley all right. He "fudges" with the locals and out right scams / rips off the out of towners because the latter have little recourse with their own local police force. A common thread here is that there are different "wives", often someone he is also scamming at the time, and a partner, and all are apparently dopeheads.
Mark Uttley and Ivo Jebsen are the reason I've decided to apply to the local police force. Not to guarantee that any recourse will come of it, but being a victim of these scammers has certainly made me want to help and educate others about it.

But i would say someone should really pay him a visit.
He screwed many people , we got proof
he runs a business , we got his address , name .....
I think the next would be , for all the guys that been ripped off go to his place pay him a visit , see what it does .
The guy will strike again & again & again
He's not the only one like this tho i met someone that is near his type not long ago but has less history , let say he keeps it low profile , Thanks for kijiji i guess

Oh, WHATever. Like hell anyone's gonna go and bang on the dude's door and beat the crap out of him. Nobody's going to jail over that guy. I seriously doubt anyone would have the cojones to do anything like that. Shying away from conflict is human nature.
i don't mean to hit the guy who would be that dumb ,
but maybe have a little talk with the guy wouldn't hurt.
the worst part... is that he offers transportation , & pickup.... this is the part i don't get
How would someone ready to scam you , ask you to come to his place , so you can see who he is where he lives ect.... it's kinda stupid if you ask me , but then again pro's are pro's for a reason they been doing it for years!

Confirmation about his identity. I sent a reply to the ad that read
Mark Uttley, Stephen Anderson, whatever, also uses the name Jim and James
If this is you - we are watching you. We will find you. We will make sure you don't take advantage of anyone again. You have been warned. If this is not you don't worry about a thing.
Then I received this reply
it is me and im still not worried , you F#@*#@# goof
Such language. I'm shocked. We really should find a way to get this guy and have him arrested and stopped from ever doing this again.

If he ripped me off for 1000 bucks I would totally go confront him plus I know guys who know guys.
I could get him killed for about 7000 dollars
But thats neither here nor there
We're not all girls privates
(NOT TRYING TO INFER THAT YOU ARE COREY)
i have done work on people who do that for a living. usally its on ly 2k for a non member hit and i don't mean a member of a pinball club.
only once did i ever even thing about paying for it. when i lived in toronto, the guy next door use to beat the crap out of his wife and was very verbal to all that lived in the area. i confronted him twice with bad results. no i didn't fight him. i don't do that sort of thing. but the way this guy was, i did talk to people i worked with then. they came over to my place with friends. parked their bikes at my friends a couple blocks away. then we made alot of noise at my place till the guy next door became a a** and started calling me out. as always i stood my ground and told him where to go. that is when he swung. well you should have seen his colour and how quick he try to say sorry when the first guy leaned over me and punched hiim in the face. then the others came out and did one heck of a job on him. he ended up pretty messed up. his lady came out and laugh at him even. not much else she could do with the guys that were there. he ended up back in jail the next week and my old boss made sure he ran into a few of his friends there. don't know anymore then that. the guy never came back to his home and his lady moved back to Inuvik. her brothers came down to move her and thanked me. wish mark was my neighbour.
His ad is back up on Craigslist and Kijiji...except hes listed as being in Guelph now. Pretty sure its him, sure looks like his writing.

I'm pretty sure I bought a machine off this guy. Was in Hamilton, games were packed in a garage. I bought an F-14. Had player 3 display out, Some broken plastics, needed some touch ups and kept tilting once in a while, for some strange reason. He says, dont worry, all ya gotta do is adjust the tilts etc...which was a pile of crap. Before this I wasnt privy to the term...RANDOM TILT. And you can bet your a** HE knew what was up. I think I talked him down $50 and hauled it away. I knew this machine had potential, I had a hunch.
But, aside from the lying...which is really mostly the point...oh, forgot to add, he said he'd send me the replacement display. I emailed him back a few times and of course I never saw that display. Oh, to finish that thought...the actual dealings were rather pleasant and we got to talking and he was ready to let me have a complete non working Aztec so I could have all the parts I needed for later repairs and upgrades to my Aztec. So, he was actually nice...in a way...not defending him, not by ANY means...he still kinda screwed me, didnt totally screw me...misrepresented what he was selling for sure, but I can see why people dont like him. He does strike me as the type to not give a mess really and he's a bit rough around the edges.
So, after I immediately open up my F-14 and notice that every tilt mech was spread wide apart, I knew I had bigger issues. So I figured out which resistor network needed replacing. Actually I replaced two of them, one was an isolated resistor network that I had to make myself by tying nine 1K resistors together, or whatever it was. And I posted that fix on RGP and I've been thanked for solving that problem and writing the fix in a clear and absolute manner. Because before it was bits and pieces, guys not sure which R network etc. Just a mess to figure out. And its a really common problem on that machine too. Ayways, in the end, I have the last laugh. It's nice proto F-14, rewired the flashers, got everything working, cleaned up splendid, cleaned everything starposts etc, all new rubbers, had a spare pop. pf to pick the best parts off of, cab touched up great, couple of pics of the pf on IPDB...it plays like new and looks killer. Like I said, I had a hunch about this machine. I could just see it would fix up well. I want to sell a machine right now to fund another purchase and I should sell this one but I just cant part with it. Way too sweet.
So, thanks mr Hamilton...or Guelph, or whatever. I win.
