Earlier in the year several members from this board helped me find my first pin - a Gottlieb 1972 Flying Carpet.  I've been busy getting the machine fixed up into working order, but realized I was long overdue for sharing some photos.

Besides a good cleaning and waxing, I had to re-solder some wires and adjust a bunch of contacts -  but the machine is up and running nice and fast.  While opinions seem to be fairly split on the machine, after a while I found I really warmed up to the game play.  Thanks again for those who helped me find the machine.

Now its just a matter of deciding if I should repaint the cabinet, and what my next machine is going to be.

looks good, what ever opinions are in here are not important, as long as you like the game thats what counts looks good. opinion > I think painting the cab will make it look cleaner and will match the clean playfield better. but in the end it is you who will be doin the work, and what your tatse is as a collector. for me if a game is clean enough and works well it is good. if some improvements can be made, that makes a big difference for little $$ then i do it, other than that i like to play the games i have. congrats and thaks for sharing.

Playfield looks good.  I wouldn't worry too much about repainting it unless it bothers you.  If you haven't already bought the "This Old Pinball" video's.... you might want to consider them.  They show repainting and touchup techniques.

Nice looking game.
Unless the other side of the cabinet is trashed I wouldn't worry too much about painting, I think its still presentable as is.
However, if you do decide to paint, you may want to consider waiting until you have a couple of other pins in the house to play while it's out of commission...

Well that's the excuse that I've been using anyways... just one more pin and I'll start my 2001 repaint, two more pins and I can do my Pinbot.

Ya right, actually the real truth is that I'm just lazy and would rather play than work... Yup, I'm a Grasshopper at heart, falls gonna come and I won't have completed a thing.
What I need to do is make friends with some Ants who like to paint.
Ya, some painting Ants... with little tiny brushes, they could probably do it with me still playing the game... painting Ants, cooool.

I forgot to mention... Scott Farrar made a good video, detailing his repainting of a couple of Fathom games.  This video could save you hours.  After watching it, I never realized that there were such things as stencil irons.  I thought everything would be cut with an exacto knife!

I think your terminology is O.K.
Here is an american hobby site with some cutters.
http://www.wlenk.com/hobby.html
They look very similar to a wood burning pen to me.
What are your tips shaped like?
Do you think that a low power soldering iron with a fine tip would work just as good?

I think this has just become a thread highjack
Maybe we should conduct any further posts in the 'Tips & how to' section?
I now return you to Andrew's Flying Carpet... once again, nice job Andrew

Think soldering iron... with really, really  pointy tips.  Straight and curved.  Like a hot knife through butter.
