Curious Steph. Did you get the part and did you fix it? Did you really save over $300 doing it yourself?
Yup, yup and yup...
I found the part on-line for $17US,
but it was going to take 1 week to ship.
I ordered it anyways, in case I could not find anything locally.
I then spent that week-end looking for the part locally, and
basically got the run around.
On the Monday, I called every AC shop in Ottawa,
and half didn't even know what the hell I was talking about.
The last AC guy I called, told me to call a small motor /electrical shop.
I called a few (..who also had no clue what I was talking about ),
but one guy was very helpful...
he told me "... well, we don't have any "dual" cap, but why don't you wire two caps together...? "
" .. I can do that ??? "
" Sure, plug the compressor to a 40MFD cap and the fan to a 5MFD cap
and ground them together... "
It was ugly, but it worked (...see the pic of the original [busted] cap, and the replacement "hybrid" ).
So I got the AC running on the Monday,
which turned out to be the last day of summer.
The weather dropped 15C the next day, and the leaves started falling.
So I apologize to everyone for cutting summer short by fixing my AC myself,
but it was worth $300 !

Steph
[ BTW: I did get the eBay replacement cap a few days later,
but didn't need it by then...
