I've heard vague rumours of this and wondered what the deal was--is it true?  they'll ship 2 pins for the price of one?  Is there anything special you have to do?  does it ship across the border or just to US locations?  Any extra info that you think I should know would be great thanks!

I am apparently the biggest user of NAVL EVER for Pins according to Michelle...at around 475 machines now...they have been great to work with both ways. A little pricey sometimes but to the door service, and even to the basement and out of the basement sometimes!! They also transport in one piece, so no palleting, wrapping, or crating is ever needed. They are really careful too... only one mishap in all of those machines, and they refunded both the cost of the machine and the shipping. The 2 for 1 applies to pretty much anywhere FROM and TO the States, but within Canada its not automatic. The reason its 2 for 1 anywhere in the U.S. is the 500 lb. minimum price..in other words, up to 500 lbs. is the same price, so 1 or 2 pins costs the same. Within Canada, some agencies have a 200 lb. minimum, and then higher prices from there. It doesn't necessarily mean that 2 will cost double all the time, but the 2 for 1 deal doesn't always apply. Its best to check before you use them for within Canada to avoid a surprise AFTER you've made a purchase.

Also its good to know that the 2 for 1 in the States is good for 2 machines picked up WITHIN THE SAME STATE, although there is a $50 extra pick-up charge. This works great when you only want one machine from a seller, but can find another somewhere else in the same state.

Keep in mind that NAVL does not broker the shipments, so you have to have your own broker to clear the shipments thru customs.

Could someone (jvegas perhaps?) Pm me michelle bianchi's contact info--i contacted our local rep and by the sounds of it 1100lb was the minimum weight, no 2 for 1 and i had to drive to buffalo to clear customs then they ship it to my door--couldn't figure what the "agent" was actually doing???  I'd like to speak to someone from NAVL who knows what I'm talking about and can give me accurate information.

thanks!

I do not arrange shipping, however I recommend NAVL for shipping if you need to. For within Canada, contact Tina at 613-741-4580. To the States, contact michelle.bianchi@beltmann.com   . You will need a customs broker to ship to the States, and I do recommend A and A brokers if you need one. http://www.aacb.com  .

475 !!!!!!

Holy Crap !!!!

How come I've only ever seen about 200 of those ?!?!?

Gee, if you average about $300 per 2-for-1 deal,
that's            475 pins /  2 (2 for 1)  x  $300  =   $70,000+   !!!!

Ouch..., the sheer magnitude of that boggles my brain....

I need to tell my wife she's got nothing to complain about !

Cheers,
Steph

Just make sure she never meets my wife!!!  Actually all that shipping ( charged to a VISA) has resulted in about 5 free Vegas flights...then again, if I'd actually paid for those flights and not bought any Pins, I'd likely be ahead enough to buy a condo out there!!!

Michelles email is michelle.bianchi@beltmann.com    She sometimes takes a day or 2 to respond but shes the one you want to deal with.

Its much easier to get a broker to clear into Canada than to get one to clear into the States, at least from what I've dealt with. Try http://www.aacb.com  to setup an account and then be ready to grab a deal when you see it!!  NAVL will then just ask for your broker acct#, then you'll be billed for shipping from NAVL and brokerage and tax from A and A or whatever broker you use. They all take credit cards too!

CHeck your yellow pages under Customs Broker.

With NAVL I would *NOT* clear it yourself.  Of all the moves I have brokered, when they say they will be crossing at 4pm, they normally cross +- 5 hours.. and if you cleared it yourself, you would be waiting.. and waiting.

If you let me know where you are located, I will recommend a good broker in your area.

While most brokers take visa/mc  most also charge a 3% finance charge, as PST/GST is basically cash out of the brokers pocket, and they need to recoup the costs that visa claws back.

As shipments are 90+% cleared electronically, You don't need to have the broker close to you. You can pick a broker in BC if you live in NS as an example.

So I've sent michelle an email (shes out for weekend--doesn't she know pinball sales take no vacations!!)  I'm also in the process of setting up an account with http://www.aacb.com.  For those that have done this--how long does the process usually take the first time--i.e. contact navl, arrange pickup, arrange broker etc etc.  I just don't want the seller to lose patience with me since I am a newbie with NAVL.  Also what will i be paying taxes on?  the declared value?  will it be GST and PST (I figure both since i govt is inheritently crooked to charge tax on a used item just cause it comes from another country)  What about brokerage fees?

Subpacket set me up with my Broker, absolutely painless, works 100% Broker Fees were around $75.00 for $6000 worth of machines. No Real account to set up or anything like that.

Also, At NAVL, you can talk to Nicole, she is also very good and works with Michelle.

Taxes should be GST, PST I guess (Yay for Alberta) Brokerage Fee and GST on that. You should Never pay Duty on a Pinball machine as they are all Made in USA regardless of what country you are bringing them in from.

The last broker fee was $57.00 + GST and GST on the $2500 shipment, Total about $190.

So my process so far (for future un-initiated) Subpacket set me up with a good broker who charges $65+GST I have to print out some forms, forward them to the seller who fills in his bit, then forwards them to the broker who then forwards them to NAVL.  As far as NAVL goes it wasn't 2 for 1 shipping but pretty close--love to hear from guys who actually got 2 for 1 and find out how they do it!  My NAVL quote was $417 from south carolina to burlington for 1 machine and $500 for 2.  This includes insurance on .06$ per lb for 600lbs (their base pinball weight) so to top up to machines actual price is $423.  Hoping to find a second buyer so i can cut my shipping in half--think I've got somebody so fingers crossed.

The 2 for 1 only applies from the same seller, as you'll pay a $50 charge for a second pick-up...occassionally thats higher if its a big state and machine #2 is serviced by another agency. If I was in the TO area I'm sure I could be the machine #2 buyer...lots of decent deals on the Carolinas!!! Intersting that the min. was 600 lbs...I've always been told its 500. Maybe its varying now state to state like it varies up here.

I Told nicole it was the same seller and she said no there is no 2 for 1 and not sure where I had heard that so you must get some deals due to volume maybe??  I'll ask again when it comes time to finalize delivery.

I'm not 100% sure but there was always a 2 for 1 deal unofficially because they have a 500 lb shipment limit so Michelle etc used to claim 250 lbs per machine thus 2 for 1. However, there was a thread in the last few months on RGP that the deal was changed as some of the local NAVL carriers were bauking at 300+ lb machines being claimed as 250 so Michelle replied that it wasn't  2 for one anymore but still cheaper than shipping 2 separately.

Last spring, I shipped 2 machines from Texas to NY to go pick up and got a quote of $415 but was charged $478 at time of billing, however 1 machine quote had also been over $400 anyways so was still worth it. I called recently and was quoted way more so went with Forward Air direct to Ottawa airport for $200 total. Only problem is you need a seller willing to pallet, package and drop off at airport - no brokerage fees tho!

Hope that clarifies abit....
