Hey guys
i tried Adams tip on a 20 year old funhouse subway ramp....
the thing was black and covered in 20 years of crap....
I didnot even want to bother to try and clean it, but thw wife was out for a few hrs and i put it in the dishwasher...........
I used normal settings and turned the heat off for drying..
You can not beleive what the dishwasher did....the ramp looks brand new.
I will post a pic later...and recomend trying this tip but make sure the ramp is secure in the dishwashewr rack..

lol.........I love "the wife was out" line.....i do the same thing with my dirty work clothes in the washer when my wife is "out".

It's true about the dishwasher though. Our dishwasher came with a little removable basket with a lid that snaps shut. I throw all my playfield posts in there and run a wash cycle. They come out just like new! Works great if you have any playfield polish built up in the nooks and crannies of the posts.

Hey that was my tip. . Adam uses some tire mess on his ramps or something.

Actually it's a common trick an op told me a long time ago. Think about that one. An op cleaning a machine. Must have been the only one.

Sooo hows my ramp?

Seems Adam would rather lick off the dirt than use the dishwasher   The dishwasher works great. I've used it many times to clean ramps. They look awesome when they come out!

Cheers,
Duane

No. I was just kidding, but that's where the other ones are going. "Straight to the vault!"

As to Adams culinary choices, I will reserve comment, but I know he is so infatuated with pinball that on occaision he's been known to "recycle" the gum.

I have heard the thing about putting boards in the dishwasher. Then I think about specific components, such as a flipper relay, and say "Nah".

I do everything by hand, I like having the control.  In the dishwasher anything could go wrong and while most times it won't go wrong, it only takes once for something to go wrong and you've ruined your part.

Also I use my air compressor after washing anything and blow any moisture off what I've washed, that way I can ensure there is no corrosion of the metal parts or any molex connectors left behind.

I don't care what other people use, this works for me and I happy with the results, use what you want and works for you, if you are happy with the dishwasher use it.

I've done it, no probs, but you have to be cautious of what components are on the board. In fact I remember someone posted here once they had a defective board, put it in the dishwasher and it worked after.

PFM!

I've tried the dishwasher for both ramps and boards, and I'll never use it again for ramps and I'll only use it on boards I can't clean by hand.

For ramps... Scrubbing Bubbles FTW!

I've put some ramps in the dishwasher, just make sure the heated dry is turned off, and if possible the water isn't too hot. Worked great for me. I used it for some ramps/sub ramps on my Dr Who that I sold, they came out clear and sparkly

I've done boards in the dishwasher, I do them by hand now. I was finding that I was spending more time cleaning off residue from running the boards through the dishwasher than I would have spent cleaning them by hand in the first place. I can do a better job by hand as well. But I will try the ramps in the dishwasher if/when I ever get around to restoring my ToM.

I've put a harness in the dishwasher and I will never do it again.  It hardly cleaned anything off it, and you have to take all the coils and switches off as well...  Much easier to clean by hand, as much of a pain in the rear as it may be...

I've found alcohol in a spray bottle to be pretty effective with wires

I don't like the dishwasher for wiring harnesses because corrosion in the connectors could be an issue.

I just use the bathtub, good old Blechewhite (or mean green) and really hot water.  The hot water will help loosen up the tight wire stands to get the dirt inside out.

then I take my air compressor and blow out all the water from inside each lamp socket, connector and switch to try and make sure I don't end up with any corrosion on any of those parts.
