I successfully performed my first discharge yesterday and still breathing!

My package from Bob Roberts finally showed up with the handy-dandy, super-expensive, safeback discharger tool ($12 assembled) he offers:

... along with a few cap kits. It didn't pop when I placed the screwdriver under the sucker-thing but it had been off for a while. What I don't understand is, after carefully swapping out caps, I have 3 left because they didn't quite match the ones currently in there. Weird. Anyway, my playing-blind-Ms Pac ain't no more:

I was surprised to find out that this board has the Speed-Up chip installed; she flies!

Unfortunately the monitor has quite a bit of screen burn and there's a vertical wave that passes across the screen. I dunno, it's not perfect but I'm happy I didn't fry.

The 3 caps you have left over could be the source of your vertical "wave" you're seeing.  Even if they are not the same values as the ones you removed, the cap kit should indicate what locations they are to be installed.  (you shouldn't have any caps left over unless the kit was put together for multiple sized tubes)

I'm also thinking the wave you're talking about could be caused by the voltage regulator, but someone with more monitor experience could confirm that.
